well we are still on the mastitus roller coaster. i have decided to give her a shot. i am trying to figure out if oxycillin is the same as oxytetracycline. the oxi part has me confused. if any of you girls know i could use the help. her milk culture said i can use tetracycline for it. what do you think? thanks sherrye
she is still sick. we called the state vet school. spoke with vet for long time. we are sending them her milk tues then starting an 8 day regime of infusions everyday and pirsue antibiotic also. if the test comes back the uncurable she will be in a bad situation. i am so sad about this. if it is bad she will never get to be a milk cow again. she is the most wonderful black face jersey. gentle and goes with me anywhere. i love this girl. please help us send good thoughts for her to get well. sadly sherrye

Oh Sherrye! I hope your girl gets 100% better on the infusions. It's so difficult when we can't fix whats wrong-and, mastitis is totally painful. I wish I could help, but you're usually who I seek out advice from!! I pray it all gets fixed quick!

Sherrye I am so sorry to hear about your cow,I hope the vet school can help you and get her back in order.
As far as the antibiotics,I understand that there are variations in all the different classes of antibiotics and some are targeted to specific ailments even though they are similiar,I learned from my vet that drugs such as sulfa can be different in action so it might be the same with the drugs in question,I would say it probably is but I'm not a vet and can't say for sure so I would sure be careful, just in case.
So sorry for your cow,I hope it all works out for you,I know you're giving her the best care possible so hang in there!
