Ladies,

Do any of you have lovebirds as pets? Thoughts on them?

Looking into getting one or two? I read as many pros as cons online?

Live in an apt. Are they extremely noisy?

Thank you all for any imput you may have!

Blessings, Linda

Thanks! Found a breader in town with a lot of info too! Checking craigs list as well!
I am pretty excited to get one. Taking my time to be certain!

I had a parotlet, Pete. He was SO loud. He would scream his name again and again. He had a really good personality though. Keep an eye on craigslist for a bird. I have been seeing people getting out of the breeding business, needing homes for birds. I had a hand fed Budgie that was psycho. My Grandma had pet store budgies, and taught them to talk! The time you spend, IMHO, at least with small birds. Parrots can take your finger off, so get one that has been handled.
I had a blue and gold macaw that just really did not like my dad, and it was bloody. He was an escape artist, so whatever you do, get a cage that is big enough, strong enough, and is the right distance between the bars.

My mil had lovebirds--2, for many years. One passed, and the other got really lonely. I always enjoyed them, but yes, they can be a little chatty!

My mother's family always had cockatiels and loved having them, and parakeets, too. My grandmother was sooo good with her parakeet, "Pete". He talked and said, "stand on your head, stupid" and "heeeere, Butchy, Butchy, Butchy!" (the dog) while riding on top of the dogs head! I think birds are wonderful--if we didn't have cats, I think I'd have one!

Ladies, thank you sooo very much!! I will look further into both lovebirds and cockatiels. Had a cockatiel, once a long time ago. Not sure they are within my price range these days. But will check it out for sure. We have a place downtown.

Thank you!
Blessings, linda

Linda--yes, lovebirds are noisy! If you want one as a pet, it's probably best to get just one, as two may bond to each other and not pay as much attention to you. I have a cockatiel and a parakeet (in separate cages) are they're not too noisy. cockatiels make good apartment pets and they are as sweet as can be (if you get a hand fed baby). Whatever kind of bird you get, it's best to get one that's hand fed.
