We were blessed with our first Chickie egg this morning. Not sure which of our girls layed this little egg. We have: 2 Black Copper Marans, 2 Silver Wyendotts, 3 Americanas, 1 DeKalb Amberlink, 1 Rhode Island Red, 1 Plymouth Partridge Rock, 1 Buff Orphington. 1 Black Sex Link.
A very pretty and colorful flock of Chickie Girls. Love them :)

Hi Violetrose.....we are expecting our very first "egg" in the next two weeks. Our chicks are so much fun and the new chicken coop we have here at our ranch has been a new adventure for us. We live in Colorado and winter will be upon us in the mountains soon, so fresh eggs each day is something we are looking forward to! All our chicks have names and love for us to even hold them! All the best to you. Blessings, Joyce

Connie, That is so special that you do that for the kids that have raised the "girls" you are getting. It has to be hard for them to let them go, but knowing you are going to be loving "chickie parents"
has to make them feel better about letting go :)!
I have fostered many a Golden Retriever and other doggies, so I totally underestand how they will feel. I have three dogs now, so am not fostering anymore :( ! I love Goldens and not a one of mine are. But I love all my critters just the same. They are mostly rescues and think they know it and appreciate us for it.

What joy a first egg is! Thanks for making me remember. Gathering the eggs is always exciting and interesting even when you expect to see them everyday. You will get different shapes and sizes, variations in color, (Obviously with your girls!) and sometimes an egg with a wrinkle in the shell and all kinds of interesting things.
We get to replace our girls next month. (We were off the farm for 18 mos while building the addition to the farm house) The 4 H group has a show and auction. They are about 20 weeks old. Our last girls came from there and were well socialized friendly girls. the kids that raise them are so cute. We take a picture of our coop and farm for them to see where their girls are going. They are so happy to see that we will love their chickens as much as they do.

Thank you Farmgirls for joining me in my eggcitement :). Today we have another egg - this one was layed in the nest box - Yea. This one is very light brown colored, all over.
Good idea to blow the egg out of the shell and save it for "Memories"!

I went out the change the girls water and they all came a running to me. Daisy got up on the roost to get closer to me, then next thing I knew Roxy was up there too, she flew over my head and landed on my back - she is a very big girl - Copper Black Maran. She finally decided to fly off - think she was after my pretty shiney earrings - oops! They love my jewelry :)

Congratulations on your first egg!! How old are your chickens? Sherrye, what a lovely idea to blow out the egg and save it. I'm going to plan on doing that too when our first egg arrives!

Congrats, that must be so exciting! I wish we had enough land here to have some chickens. Here I think we would need an acre or two in order to have them, according to the city code.

Yeah, an egg!! How exciting! I think you can rule out the Marans and the Americanas. You do have an assortment of girls there. I bet they are all just beautiful. No roo? I am sure I have one to spare. I could deliver him. I hope there are many more eggs to foloow this one. You will have so many different colors of eggs just like your chickens soon.

It is actually dark brown on top w/speckles, going down to a light brown. It does look lavender though :) in the photo.
