But I know I havta. There's just so much to do. And I don't even want to go outside today. I just came back in from feeding and milking and I am sweaty and nasty already. I need to mulch in the garden around the new squash and zuc that I planted in the middle of the corn rows. But I don't wanna. I need to figure out a way to fence in the tomatoes so I can let all the chickens out again. But I don't wanna. I need to push mow about an acre of shin deep grass but I don't wanna. I need to rake up and shovel tons of s***. And then take it to the compost. But I just don't wanna. There's just TOO MUCH TO DO! And I just don't wanna do it today.

But I am hungry and I am making a good ole country breakfast of home grown sausage in gravy, fried taters, fresh eggs, and good ole biscuits! I started thinking about this last night. SO I will eat a good breakfast, do a little inside work, then later this evening, IF it doesn't rain again, go out and do all this stuff that needs to be done. Why oh why did we not have a bunch of boys?

I hope everyone else has a good day. And maybe get some work done on your place today.

Oh Kris your sister most really be cold blooded. With all the rain we have humidity right now. We will be reaching in the 90's tomorrow and we are closer to the sun.

I am with you Margaret tomorrow might be my cleaning chicken coop day - with all the rain, hail and mud I have a job in this not to mention the water logged poop outside the goat barns. Then there is the getting the mud off of things and Oh Yeah the weed pulling... I am sweating just thinking about it. Maybe I will hide in the fiber room and work there???

Have fun in the chicken coop nothing like hot chicken poop...

Margaret. my sister lives in Colorado Springs. She says it doesn't get hot there or humid. In fact, she doesn't even have AC. And hardly ever opens her windows. She is cold blooded, I think. I hope you get all your work done. And that you get some more chickens. I have too many right now. But I love them.

Deborah, any time you need a break, come on. I would love some help around here. I have gone to twice a day milking now. And am probably going to get a newborn calf too.

Kris that sounds like it would be a wonderful time doing a retreat. I would love to come up when you decide to do it. I would love to be taught to milk a goat and cow and anything else that would need to be done...

Oh I can so identify with this...my project for tomorrow is cleaning the chicken coop, that has never been cleaned And it is going to be stinking hot tomorrow We inherited three chickens. One only shows up every couple of days but the others do hang about and I would love to add a couple more to our chickie family. The coop also has no protection from snakes and critters around the bottom. So I will rake, hose down, and tack hardware cloth around the bottom, spread wood shavings on the floor, and put straw in the nest boxes, hang the feeder and put the waterer up on blocks. And then once I am finished, I will come in and take a very hot shower and sit in front of a fan LOL!

I know exactly. Right now I have my 8 year old granddaughter. I am constantly looking for her. Seems like she just disappears. She'll be there one minute and gone the next. They grow so fast.

It was a good day to get things done outside. It was actually nice out. Cloudy and cooler. I picked 4 gallons of green beans and some squash. Then went down the road and picked 2 gallons of blueberries. For free! Then spilled them all over the back of my very nasty Trooper. Got hay and dirt all over them. I am so mad. Now I'll have to wash them and pick through them and dry them before freezing them. So upset.

So tomorrow will be a canning and freezing and bread baking day here. Then off to the horse rescue open house.

Little baby girl is growing! She's a REALLY LOUD 5 month old. LOL. I took her with me the other day to pick blackberries and I was so scared she was going to reach out and grab a thorny branch! I worry about her getting bitten constantly, too. I swear, having a kid makes you go crazy!!!!!

Yep, know what ya mean, Megan. Actually it was not as humid today as the past several days. But still hot. My mom's boss is a blackberry picking maniac. She gave mom about a quart of them and she gave them to me. I am going to make jelly. That's the only way I will eat them. I have a really bad hate for the bushes. And roses. They are evil! I always come out the loser and dripping blood. Hate them! Be careful out there. How's that little baby girl?

LOL. I procrastinated hoeing my garden all day. I just got done an hour ago. I was sweaty and nasty!!! But at least it was cool outside. With how hot it's been it's dangerous to be out in that heat too long! I went and picked blackberries earlier and about fainted it was so hot!

Marcy, you are so sweet. And you are welcome to come down anytime! I do have a little guest house available. I have thought of doing a weekend retreat type thing for people who would like to come visit a farm and help out with all the work. Like milking goats and gathering eggs and working in the garden. So you could be my guinnea pig. Come on down.

Sometimes I do wake up in the morning thinking that I have to do the same ole thing all over again. But ya know what? No 2 days are exactly the same really. It's amazing.

Kris,

I so wish that I lived closer. I would love to help out. Just getting to spend time with the animals for a few hours sounds like heaven. Although if I had to do it every day, I know that I would look at it differently.

hugs and hope you have a wonderful day

Yesterday was nasty hot. Even my cow Mazie was panting. I do spray her and Chuck with the hose. It's such a heavy heat too. No air moving at all. I did go out and picked a half bushel of green beans. I was up til midnight last night breaking them. And I am now canning them! Got one canner full with 7 quarts and another ready with 5 quarts. Then some tomatoes ready to can also. Same kind of day today.

Holly, that tub does sound nice. I bet it's great in the winter. Not so much right now thiugh. I can't imagine taking a hot shower in this heat. But it does sound good. I hope you get the hen house done too.

Sherrye, you are so lucky to just be in the 70's right now. I would love that. I hope you are feeling better soon.

Holly the hot tub sounds wonderful - I had to settle for a hot bath to get rid of my leg cramps... Did not work so a PM asprin and early bed.

Up this morning and still not desire for outside work - this is really getting strange. Maybe after a good breakfast.

It was very hot here today as well. It was in the 90's but we are not complaining. We think of what the alternative could be. We have had a lot of rain this year and we are just glad that the sun is out and maybe our gardens will finally grow.

On the other hand I did spend the day in the house after chores were done this morning. One should take a day of decadence once in a while, it is good for the psyche. I do not even feel guilty that I did not finish the new chicken yard. Now if some wild thing comes and eats one of my new laying hens I will chastise myself but for now I feel good.

We do have a wood fired hot tub. I finished filling it today and fired it up. It takes several days to fill because we have a spring that gavity feeds to a holding tank in the downstairs and I do not want to drain it all the way. I am looking forward to soaking tonight.

Yep, me too today. It's 100 and very humid. Those 2 things together make for a lousy time outside. I just went out to feed the lamb and let some chickens out and I am soaked. My head is dripping. Yuck!

Grace, sounds like you have some nice inside work to keep you busy. ANd great idea about those weeds!

Sherrye just let me know what you need - I have some great one's that I make felted soap out of - quick felting, very soft and great colors.

Well, I am thinking I will just work in front of the carder today because I just can not convince myself to heavy work today... Normally I love to do the outside work but for some reason I am just not feeling it.

I thought it was only me who was not wanting to go outside. I got a big old break because we had storm after storm roll in and the lightening was too bad to work outside. I just could not get excited to shovel rain soaked poop. The weeds I think I will let grow to my knees so I do not have to bend to pull them...

I did make some great fiber batts and spun some black alpaca for a customer so it was not like I was slacking.... Still not in the mood to do that outside work today either... Can't get my mind into it.

Wow, Paula. Sounds like you got up with the sun. I usually do. But I am just tired of being soaking wet all the time. I did end up going out after my parents left about 3 and mowed every bit of grass here I could see. I was soaked. But it's done for a few days now. Already looks like it's grown a few inches. Sure wish I had a pool to jump into. I do tend to get heat headaches.

Amen Ladies! Heat index is 105 here today, humidity is 61%, actual temp is 91. Walking out the door is like going into a sauna. I worked outside all day yesterday and felt ill by dinner time. Just doing the absolute have to's today.
That breakfast sound good Kris. Enjoy it!

I'm right in there with you. It was 80 degrees at 9 a.m. with 84 percent humidity. Today is the day for mowing and moving the two week's accumulation of horse "compost" from the dry lot to the back of the property. I've already fed horses, cleaned and filled water troughs, fed the chickies, watered the garden, and I'm on my second set of clothes so far. I came inside to cool off and have a nice hot cup of coffee and breakfast before heading out to do more. The one thing that keeps me going is knowing my hubby just vacuumed the pool and it is ready and waiting for me to jump in when everything is done!!

Kris, I know the feeling! Especially when the days are hot and humid I come close to envying those who don't have the big daily list of to-do's but I know I wouldn't give up country living for anything.
I hope the great breakfast got you in a more energetic mood.
Its a good idea to get a start on the day but avoiding heat stroke is also a serious issue. If its like here there's plenty to do inside too.
