The lady we bought the goats from, had rescued them. The people who had them originally, did not dis-bud him properly, and his horns grew back in, however one is not going up, and is going back down to his head. It's almost touching his head. What do we need to do? I have no idea how to locate a farm vet either. There is a photo of him on my blog.

Quick update:
We found a farm vet who will cut most of the horn off, and put him to sleep while they do it. Most likely, they won't completely de-horn him at his age. I am praying that he is not in pain before the first appt. they had - July 1st.

Linda, he's just 7 weeks old. All the other;s are great. No sign of horns at all. Next time they will be done before they even come out. Like a week old. That seems to be a good time. My friend had borrowed my disbudding iron last year. She called the other day and said she found it. So she will be bringing it back to me and hopefully she can help with Zeke's one little horn before it gets too big.

Kristin if he is still pretty young you can burn that side again. If you don't want that done just keep it clipped. When they get older they don't like having it clipped very much. Bucks don't like to have their heads confined when you try to clip and some don't seem to mind at all just depends on their personality. My buck is always a bit honery when we do his. I am glad we only do it twice a year.

He looks just like Abby's buck from last year. Very handsome buck. We waited too long to be able to disbud him so he has horns.
So with Abby's buck this year, I took him to a vet to disbud. He was a week old. One of them is coming back but on the side. It's only about 1 1/2" right now. Could I just clip it? Or can we use the iron on it?

I bought a buck 2 years ago and he has part of a horn that started doing the same thing. I take my really sharp hoove clippers and while my husband holds him I clip off about an inch. So far its been fine and I do that about every 6 months. Good luck.

He's a good looking goat. You can also keep the horn trimmed, you should be able to get some clippers at a feed store. As far as finding a vet, I"d just go through the phone book and ask if they do farm animals and what the barn fee is (or office visit if you take him to them).

hi kristina, my vet uses a caltrate bander. its like what is used for castrating bucks etc. the put 2 or 3 really close to the head. it ends up cutting off circulation it dies and falls off. way less aggressive, but sometimes they knock them off. hope this helps ya happy days sherrye
