We have had 5 hens for over a year & this is a new issue.
I noticed it after our little broody hen snapped out of it. I thought she was just trying to get back in the swing of things and pushed poo instead of an egg! But still no eggs from her and instead there is poo, every day, usually the same box but today it was in a different box. (We have 3.) The boxes are clean, changed straw yesterday and do it weekly.
Please tell me if this is a sign of anything or just a lazy hen or if it possibly is a broody hen just getting back to laying again?

Thanks!

Thanks Michele,
This little hen is 13 months old. She went broody at 9 months and she's done it 3 times. Right now she is out and about and we are still waiting for 5 eggs in one day. That is the only way I'll know she is laying again. I happens about once a week, usually a warm and bright day. She is a Dominique...quite the chatterbox! Anyone else have those busy little talkers? She's a sweetie & I am thankful that she did go broody. I take her out of the tractor 2 times a day when she is broody and "make" her stretch her legs, get some water and treats. It's given us some special alone time and boy is she used to it.
I remember when she first went broody I thought something was wrong with her. I tried to get eggs and she flopped out of the box and was limp. I have learned so much from you all that I am forever thankful.

Honey there is nothing wrong with her...her body just hasn't caught up to the mind yet over the egg laying...is she a older hen? sometimes if they are over 2 yrs they will do things like this...to help her put a egg under her so that she will quit pushing the poo, which is unhealthy...she can get it in her mouth & get all types of disrupts in her system....also worms & thats very unhealthy for her....see if an egg will trigger the mind & body to start producing eggs for you.....Michele'
