Okay. I grew up around chickens, and now I finally have some of my own. But I have never had a hen that is quite so "cheeky" I guess you'd call it. She hides the eggs. Not by laying them in a weird new place, but she lays them in the big nest and then covers them. And she has gone around to all of the nests and done this! I about kicked some around! She kicks all sorts of straw up over them! Do you think she got some Easter Bunny envy a few weeks ago? Crazy girl! Anyone else have a smarty pants hen like this?

I NEVER liked birds but chickens are a different matter - I have loved them since I was a little girl. However, I now have 5 Roos not but my bidding but showed up in the hatching that I paid for only girls - anyway, I hate that they fly up among other nasty behavior. The other day while building a new compost bin outside the coop one went after one of the girls horribly and when I went to chance him he flew in my face. Instinct took over and I knocked him clear across the yard. I thought surely I broke his neck - his head was bloody and I went over with such remorse and as I was saying sorry more times then I could count I bent down to pick him up and see if I could give him any aid or if I had broke his neck. With tear welling in my eyes and such a hard heart I gently picked him up, his eyes closed and body limp. As the tears started to roll the dam thing sprung to life, jumped in the air, I screamed and again smacked him another 30 feet. This time I was full of anger and wished him a speedy departure but the bugger got up and ran off. Not A Roo Mother here - not happy they are here but I never kill someone so until I can convince someone to take these buggers I will I guess have more exciting interactions. Love my Hens - Not thrilled with my Roo's. Life is never dull at the Funny Farm.

That is sooo funny! I can see it too! I don't have any that go to those lengths, but I have ten pullets that will probably add to our fun here too. For now I get to laugh myself to peeing my pants watching my stepdaughter with them. She likes all the other animals, but the chickens "freak her out". (Which is strange...I know tons of people that will wrestle a steer before they'd pick up a chicken...). Anyhow, my girls as I call them always run at the side garage door when they hear it open. They're used to running to me when I give them treats. Well, if my stepdaughter goes out that way, she gallops away ass quick as possible because she swears they're chasing her and want to get her! All they want to do is beg! (And btw, I LOVE the name of your farm. If you live on a farm, you'd better have a sense of humor!)

I have a couple of them who do similar things. One squeezes between the feed drums and wall and lays her egg which requires me to move a 200 pound drum to get to it. Or then she wiggles under the roosting tower and squeezes out the egg and wiggles out. This requires me to take apart the tower each time to get the egg. I also have one who I swear she crosses her legs and waits till I collect all the eggs and leave the coop. As I am shuting the door for the night she quickly lays her egg and then hides... I go back in and if I reach for it she runs out and pecks me. We do this every night and if I get in a hurry and forget she screams as if someone is killing her... So in I go and yep she pecks me. So your not alone I have some nutter hens but what else would you expect for Funny Farm Chicks???
