i thought i would post about my dna testing. i am very happy to learn maddie is a-2. so she was bred to a white park that is a-2. so there baby whatever it is will be a guaranteed a-2. for those who drink the milk it is a better choice. the a-2 gene is a correct casein protein molecule. the devil in the milk explains the medical concerns of milk from a-1 cows. those who are some what intolerant to milk sometimes can tolerate a-2 milk. so maddie my cow is a-2. she will calve in 2 weeks. she is a pasture cow. she has horns and uses them. we will bring her in and corral her. then when she has her calf about a week the horns are going. then i am going to train her to milk. it will be a true challenge. i do think a lot of her attitude is her horns. she has a nice bag and teats. this is her third calf. i have customers hoping for a-2 milk. this will be really good for our customers. so far we will be the only milk in county that is a-2. rogue dairy in the valley changed all their cows to a-2 milk cows. so i am doing the happy dance here for sure. so even an a-2 a-1 cow has half complete protein in her milk. many of the cows not traditionally bred for dairy quantity are a-2. like milking shorthorn, angus, brown swiss, etc. i believe the a-2 is a good selling point i think. it is only 25.00 for the test. you pull about 45 hairs out of their tail. where the hair is long. you send in the tail hair tips. it goes to uc davis, their genetics lab. very easy. has anyone else ever done this. does anyone have an opinion? or thoughts on this sherrye

hi jennifer, the small mini jerseys have a good chance of being a-2. the jerseys as they are today in size still have a more than 60 percent chance of being good a-2 milk. i personally like jerseys a lot. i do hear the milking shorthorns are a good pick too. i think aunt jenny has one. well gotta do chores. happy days sherrye

That's really interesting! I was thinking about some small scale Jerseys for milk production, but now I'll have to weigh a-2 milk against the decision.

the milk is wonderful. no difference in taste to me. the protein molecule in a-1 cows has a flaw. if you go to ask.com and type the devil in the milk you will get articles. europe is always ahead of the us. i think social medicine allows for preventive care. so in that situation greed would not hold the truth back. here its about all the cows milking with a-1 milk they would have to change. corps. usually would not do this. i think all raw milk is wonderful. i think if this helps someone be able to use my milk, who otherwise could not well that is great. happy days sherrye gotta milk. kris i bet maizie is a-2.

Sherrye, I have never heard of it either. I'll have to ask my friend who is milking her Jerseys. I am happy for you. Does the milk taste different?

good morning alee, it is interesting to me. the book and website story are called.... the devil in the milk.... thanks for your . interest. i was reading last night about it. the article was talking about molecule size. according to their research a-2 milk has a protein molecule size like goat zebu dexxter angus etc. this is such good news for those that like cow milk and have a problem with it. we are learning as we go here. happy days sherrye
