Posted - Apr 22 2011 : 06:49:39 AM oh grace thanks. i do want all the help i can have. she is about 3 hours away right now. lacey is getting her stable. she was in a dairy and contracted pink eye. how sad she lost her eye to a treatable condition. she is very small. 600 pounds. i like that. so vet check said it will be blind. it has scar tissue in there. she does blink and keep it lubricated with the blinking. so she will not be here till she settles down some. she is very scared. she has a calf on her that is not hers. she loves it very much. sherrye

Posted - Apr 22 2011 : 06:42:51 AM Sherrye there are many things that can be done to train her - We put some of the training on the thread about a goat... I have a goat who has three working teats - Olivia who broke her leg... Honestly, until that time she never let me touch her and was full of fleece, when I set her leg and sheared her I found the third teat and was amazed that it was a working one... Life gives us all something that might be a challenge or a gift - it is just how you look at it. I know there are many of us who have dealt with blindness and the animals do wonderful so please let us help if you wish.

Posted - Apr 21 2011 : 10:24:36 PM Yes, they can! With raising tons of bottle baby calves each year I even have some that are blind in both eyes and with starting them out in small pens to get there feeling with the fencing and moving them into bigger ones with other calves they seem to manage just well for me.

Posted - Apr 21 2011 : 1:21:57 PM if they are born that way, it makes it much easier, cause they do not know any differant. If it happens later in life, most will learn to deal, but they do need our help, and they must totaly trust in us. Make sure they is no dangerous projectials they can catch on, bell another one of your cows so she can learn to follow, make feed and water easy for her to get to, in an open area with 360 degrees of access, make sure dogs/predators can not get to her and chase her, running blind on one side is a tragedy waiting to happen...good luck...
