Posted - Apr 19 2011 : 10:55:57 AM good to hear from you angie, i hope you are doing better today. it is so fun. i just love how we live. i let the 2 cows out in yard today. hazel had been in a tent barn and corral. i wanted her to settle down first. well i just let them out. they ran and bucked with bags swinging. belle said come hazel lets go here, no wait lets go over here, no how about the fruit yard. i moved them out of my peas the strawberries etc. they were running crazy. so i am in the house. here comes 2 1100 pound cows across our back patio. they stuck their heads in the glass door and mooed. well i need to go do some work. but i was so filled with love to my God Jehovah when those girls were running together. so cute so spring. happy days here sherrye

Posted - Apr 19 2011 : 06:52:35 AM godd morning, i had cecided i would test all my dexter girls before i buy a cow. i tested to see if i had any A-2 milk. out of all my girls i have 3 A-2 and 3 A-2 A-1 milkers. so i am sharing a cow for a few months. i have a cow freshening in may. so i am waiting for her tests back before i do anything.hazel is a sweet heart. so they pay her food, dr., etc. i milk and do daily for her here. when they know how to milk and get there parlor done she will go to them.we are testing her also. i really want A-2 milk cows. lacey is a cow buyer. i found hazel through her. she is buying cows up, testing, then selling the A-2 cows for a lot of money. A-2 jersey milk cows go for anywhere from 2.000 up. so my goal is to breed my white parks and dexters to A-2 jersey cows. training the milk raising the calf, then training to milk and then sell an A-2 dual purpose cow. you get milk that is a complete casien molecule. so it is easier to digest. you get a beefier animal. if you get bulls you can sell for beef or milk cow breeding. so i am waiting to see if maddie is A-2. i am sending her dna in today. she will calve in a few weeks. at this time she is not a milker. lacey is always looking for A-2 cows. if she finds one and needs it milked and worked with she will bring it here. i need to dry belle off for calving in july. so i will need another milker for her dry period. so we will see what develps. for now i am training hazel to be a family cow. she is getting used to life on a family farm. since coming from a dairy, she has a lot to learn beyond the milk room. i sure am glad your kids are all born. i have 3 goats to go. i so need a camera. i have to wait for others to take pics for me. when i get some i will post. she is such a pretty girl. thanks for being interested. i slept great last night. so more power today. i would bet money that some of the girls on here have A-2 cows. the defective gene is mostly holstein and gurnsey. some jersey too since bred to the others some. folks in klamath and portland area are getting 10.00 a gallon. i dont put my price up. i do share the knowledge about A-2 with my customers. i bet maizie is A-2. since she is angus less likely to have flaw. i think its weston price that calls the genetic flaw as the devil in the milk. so sun is out frost on ground but a mighty fine day. hope all you farmgirls have a fine day. did i mention these milk cows go for really good money. happy days sherrye

Posted - Apr 18 2011 : 04:42:17 AM Sherrye, you poor girl. I can just imagine how you feel. If I were you, I would not let her out of the barn til she got used to everything and everyone there. That's too much work chasing a cow. That's alot of milk. I guess you will be making cheese and butter and all kinds of god stuff again. My friend has started making cottage cheese that is so good and French vanilla yogurt that taste just like, or better than, Stoneyfield. And of course cheese and butter. She is getting so much milk from 2 cows. She sells most of it but still has gallons to use. I get my whey from her. So I am happy for you but don't go wear yourself out and get sick or hurt.
