Yuck! I went out today and Tala's run is completely disgusting. You know- that inevitable mixture of mud and manure that happens when we have to unfortunatly confine a large animal to a smaller space. I gave her a bath and cleaned up her run (even though I board and they should be doing this!!!) and yet, the ground is saturated with spring melt right now so I have no hope. Next time I go out it will be the exact same story. I will have to give her a bath before I ride her again and again and again until summer arrives and the ground stays dry.

I can't WAIT until I have my own land and can put her in a proper pasture! I am already researching grass types that are grazing hardy and nutritious. I am going to plant a huge mixture of plants in the pasture and reseed probaby every winter just to make sure that there is some hardiness.

I am off to do some research to see what I can put down to help dry out her run in the short term. I might end up buying a few bales of wood shavings and making them clean them out as necessary.

We are still waiting on our mud season to officially start. . . we are expecting another 15+ inches of snow tonight. . . sigh, funny to be looking forward to mud season! Glad everyone is doing okay . . need to be careful no matter what the season... for us it's ice right now, one slip and I'll slide all the way down to the road! If you all want a laugh, check out my blog and see my kitty looking out the window at the young bull moose who was passing by. At least the moose can move in all the deep snow and mud!

Maggie, I'm alright. I got a prescription from the doctor for some cream to put on my swollen arm. It's HUGE. I can't take any medicine because I'm breastfeeding, but I'm having a pretty large toxic reaction.

Last year I lost my boot while walking out to feed the cattle, and fell in the cow poop mud while trying to retrieve it. All over my carharts and everything. Husband took pictures and we both got a huge laugh out of the ordeal, but mud sucks!!!

Y'all better be careful!
It has been raining here in SC for a week straight.. I tried to feed our cows the other night and I wound up getting the truck stuck in mud all the way up to the running boards.. I tried forward and reverse... didn't budge. I had to walk all the way back to the barn to get the tractor... I was soaked and not happy.
but that doesn't top about a month ago, I tried to jump over a huge patch of mud.. totally slipped and fell, I had mud all over my back, hair, you name it.. it was muddy..
but, I reckon this rain spurt we have had will take us out of the drought and give us pretty grass in april!

Alee-would putting sand in her run help?

Hannah I'm glad you are better. Your bruise turing rainbow colors yet? :)
Is it raining EVERYWHERE? It has rained off and on here for days. I can stand cold and I can stand rain but I hate when it is cold and raining.
Megan- As cold as it is I'm surprised you got stung! Vicious little bugger too! Hope you got to stomp him.

Yike Hannah! Please be careful!

Of course today was a overcast and probably rained a bit down by the river where my horse is at. So not much drying going on today. I am hoping that next week will have better results. I am going to go down there every day after work a bit and try to dislodge more and more of the nasty buildup. I am still furious that they haven't gotten her run cleaned out properly. Oh well. All the more reasons why I want to get her safely on my own land soon!

Oh my goodness! I'm glad you didn't knock yourself out. Too wet and cold to be laying in the mud! Hope you heal quickly.

I hear ya Alee! I was cleaning out goat pens yesterday and was taking a load of manure and bedding up when I slipped in the mud and hit the right side of my face and arm on the metal part of the wheel barrel. I now have a beautiful, swollen black and blue bruise on the side of my face and arm. I cannot wait till summer! LOL!

Hannah
