Posted - Mar 11 2011 : 6:12:46 PM Last night in the middle of the night my husband let our dog out--when he came back in we quickly realized that he'd been sprayed by a skunk. YUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCKKKKKKKKKKKKK!! I know tomato juice really isn't effective (have tried on a skunky husband before!) It was like 3:30 a.m and here I am googling how to get rid of skunk smell. All suggestions seemed like they were at least a quart of peroxide plus other things. Well, who has that much peroxide on hand?! So. . .we bathed him several times with all kinds of stuff that we had--dish soap, flea shampoo, etc. STUNK up our whole house, really bad!! 32 degrees out and 3 ft of snow--we don't have any outdoor housing for the dog, so he was inside with us.
We all stunk like skunk all day today! Finally got to TSC and bought some Nature's Magic skunk odor remover--worked like a CHARM!! the house is still a bit stinky, but compared to earlier, it's much better.

Posted - Mar 13 2011 : 06:51:37 AM If you can find odor ban it use to be sold at Sams cloub. That works great! But the baking soda and peroxide is the best! I hope you are all smelling better! LOL LOL Good luck!

Posted - Mar 13 2011 : 05:56:56 AM when i was pregnant with our first son we had a small collie, moses. one nite he got into it with a skunk the smell woke me right up! because of it i started dry heaving and we had to leave for the rest of the nite and hubby had to go in morning and take care of everything. we still get a chuckle out of it 16 years later although it wasn't funny then

Posted - Mar 11 2011 : 8:18:51 PM Oh, my, Sheila - that IS awful! Our girl got skunked here in town a couple of years ago and it was horrid! It was so late at night, that I just pulled out a bottle of V-8 - that was all we had. We rubbed it all over her and gave her a bath and the smell vanished! It was amazing! The only thing we couldn't clean was her collar, but that was okay - she was due for a shiny new pink one anyway! :) Hope the smell goes away soon - that is a miserable thing... Hugs - Nini

Posted - Mar 11 2011 : 8:03:08 PM Sheila, I hope Sheri's mixture works for you...skunky dogs are the worst!! We had a dog once attack a mom skunk and her three babies who were living under our deck (we didn't know it). I didn't think that smell was going to EVER go away!!

Posted - Mar 11 2011 : 7:25:35 PM The peroxide is really the only helpful method. Mix 1 qt. peroxide, 1/4 c baking soda and 1 TBSP dish soap in an open bucket to allow for reaction with the soda. Sponge dog until soaked pretty well. Let stand for a few minutes and wash off. My dogs got skunked twice last summer and nothing kills it completely but this solution works the best that I have found. I try to keep it on hand all the time as it's pretty inexpensive.
Blessings, Sheri
