Posted - Jan 09 2011 : 11:39:31 AM I was really feeling like doing something physical and, what with the snow and all, it's a little too early to cultivate soil or even think about it. So....I went out and cleaned out the chicken coop - then gave the girls some bread heels to make up for the commotion. Now we are off to town to buy clean straw and pine shavings. Sometimes that physical labor feels soooo good. And I have happy chickens too:)

Posted - Jan 15 2011 : 3:59:10 PM Well, after building 8 goat kidding jugs I decided might as well give another big clean to the coop while the weather was great. Friday I was working in just a sweatshirt - much better then the four layers I was in early the week. Hens spent the evening scratching and stirring up everything... Roosters need to spend the whole time crowing at me as if that would stop me when I am on a cleaning roll. Body is soar today but I felt such a great sense of purpose - strange but glad to know I am not the only one who loves cleaning up after animals.

Posted - Jan 15 2011 : 1:14:23 PM Amy Grace, I had the same idea today !! Chicken coop is clean and smelling lovely - at least for now. Girls were happy with the new digs and the scratch grain treat for staying outside in the blowing weather. Bad weather is on the way and I'm feeling like I accomplished much today! Tammyb 541

Posted - Jan 09 2011 : 5:54:22 PM That's funny Grace - I feel like my body was built for hard labor, it feels best when I am really working, my back especially. And yes, the chickens were really happy, enough so that I was afraid they wouldn't want to go in for the night - they were still running around in the straw at dusk - and it's going to be really cold, but they're all in and snug.

Posted - Jan 09 2011 : 4:21:27 PM I with you - next to spinning I am happiest when I am outside doing cleaning chores and hard labor - strange that way but I guess I was built for that!
Hope the chickens are happy - I am sure they will be spending the evening moving that straw all around - good times..
