My poor girls! Their yard was under 2 feet of snow and they were standing in their doorway looking quite forlorned. So I donned my flannel-lined jeans, sorrels, turtleneck, and wool sweater and shoveled out their yard. It took quite awhile and it's -10 degrees. Do you you think those goofy hens will go out? NO! I think they just wanted to watch me shovel!

Glad I don't have any snow come my way. My chickens wouldn't know what to do out there..lol..They might have to cluck to me to carry them outside..not!

Love me like I am. farmgirl #801

Lucky chickens Grace! The sun is out today, even though it's still hovering around zero, it's amazing what a difference a little radiant energy makes! And Sherry, I'll share a laugh with a farm sister ANYTIME!!

Great to know that it is not just me who would do something like that!!! O.K. I have even done that for sheep and goats - I guess we all just have way too soft hearts.

This morning the chickens got warm milk and oatmeal - talk about being the popular gal after that treat..

Oh Liz....I laughed out loud when I read your post...that's something I would have done (and have done): carrying chickens one by one to bed.
Diana...I know you're right, I was played! LOL I've never heard of that book, but the title alone has me smiling. I am going to find it!

Wednesday I let the chickens out and they were soo glad to be out that they didn't realize that there was snow on the gorund. They flew out to the middle of the yard and thats were they stood for the afternoon. come bedtime I had to go out and pick up each chicken and carry her back to the coop. Boy am I glad I only have six birds. Now when I open the door they stay inside. I think it is gonna be a long winter!

That's the thing, Diana...they do have a covered "porch" area that is snow free, but it isn't very big. I thought I was doing them a favor ;)

I put a roof over my chicken pen so I wouldn't have to shovel and they could go outside.

They love it.

I winder what they were all talking about? I sure wish I spoke chicken. I bet they were having a ball watching you out there. But you got a nice workout from it anyway. Good for you. And that is way too cold out there.

Kelly your chickens must have been talking to mine. I did the same thing but with the bitter cold I really was glad they did not even to thru the doors. I spent Thursday putting vaseline on the combs and waddles to protect them, the last thing I wanted was to chase chickens thru snow drifts with it only being a -25 out... May chickens are really smart???
