Posted - Dec 26 2010 : 08:19:33 AM Maggie and Riggs are a brother- sister pair of Australian Shepard/ Mix I adopted from rescue to take to the farm in N. E. Iowa.
I trained them for basic commands and asked the farmer, for whom the dogs were for, to please keep up the training and I would be back to help train them for his cattle.
They already have good instincts and did "gather" a heifer that got into the neighbors hay field. Then they "drove" 5 heifers to the milk barn. Well, so they weren't going to be milked, but they thought they were doing something great. The boy takes the head and the girl brings up the rear.
Was going to train them to understand commands for left and right, etc. The farmer called and said he didn't have time ( 5 minutes) to train basics.. DUH! I now have Maggie and Riggs living with me and 7 St. Bernards. Would like to find them a good home on a farm so they can roam , help with cattle and have a great family to love.
If you know of anyone who would love them as much as I do please let me know. They are both fixed, all shots and parasite free. I have already paid the $200 adoption fee and an adoption fee is very negotiable.
They love toys and playing. Both are cuddlers, too. I allow them in the house and on the furniture. This can be fixed, too.
Thanks so much for reading this post. I really don't want to let them go. I do not want to take them back to rescue because they are REALLY full now and will probably take them to a shelter. They are now about 8 months old .

It is true...herding is addictive. I was warned. The more I read or review videos, etc the more I get wrapped up in herding.
Thanks to everyone who had viewed this post. WENDE

Posted - Dec 27 2010 : 09:13:11 AM why couldn't I have known about these dogs this past summer when I was looking for dogs to keep my cows from walking down the road? If I could think of having them join our family how would I get them to the cold and blustery northeast and How would I learn to work with them ?

Posted - Dec 26 2010 : 8:19:50 PM HI Carol,
I didn;t want to make a decision in haste either. They have been around goats, dairy cows and barn, also draft horses. Barn cats too. They love to chase the cats, but get over it.
They ride in the car / van well. Like to meet people and love kids. They do not nip at heals, but cold noses on bare skin.. LOLOL
Hope you had a great Christmas Carol. Wende

Posted - Dec 26 2010 : 09:37:05 AM They are adorable and sound like wonderful dogs. I have a border collie and Aussie mix -- she is smarter than me!
Here's hoping they find a wonderful home...
