My 6 1/2 yr old boxer, Emily, is missing. I'm out of town and got the call yesterday evening. We live out in the country. She's an inside/outside dog that sleeps inside at night in the winter but runs around freely otherwise. We have an outside dog (Great Pyrenes, Bob) that she pals around with. She ventured off with Bob, he came back last night around 9pm with 2 deer legs but she wasn't with him.

I'm not giving up hope, but I'm heartbroken. It gets so cold at night and she has such short hair. She's not rough and tumble like Bob. I can't get the image of her out in the cold lost, alone, and scared out of my head.

I would really appreciate any good thoughts to keep her safe.

Oh ! I'm so glad that she was found! I would be devastated if either of my dogs became lost while I was away. My old dog snores and farts too, but I love her to pieces. So So glad you got your pup back!

Oh I am doing the Happy Dance - besides what's a bit of snoring and farting amongst loved one's.... I am so happy for you both. Glad everyone has new tags - got me to thinking - my three Great Pry's have lost theirs over time - sounds like Santa will be bringing some shiney new tags for my well deserving, hard work, big hearted fur children...

I'm so happy Emily is home!. We lost our Willie 2 years ago and after a long and expensive search were informed that someone had seen him riding in a big pickup, safe and sound but not with us. We'd placed ads, handed out flyers, went from house to house in a 5 mile circle. I still think about him and wonder what I'd say if I ever see him with someone again. But your Emily is home now. Thanks for letting us know.

She's home, she's home, she's home!!!!

Oh thank you all so much for your prayers, thoughts, and encouragement. Here's the story....

I was out of town with my boyfriend, but we live just a stone's throw away from his parents. So they were keeping her while we were gone. We live outside a very small town, the nearest shelter is 25 miles away, so we had to go a different route. We have 2 neighbors, both about a mile away in different directions. After that, there aren't houses in miles. Both neighbors were notified and my boyfriends Dad called the Sheriffs office incase they received a call. Emily spent one night out all alone. I was sick. I tried to keep myself together and keep hope, but the thought of her being out there in the cold just tore me apart. Then the thought of coyotes would pop up in my head and I was a gonner. We kept checking in to see if she'd shown up, with no good news. Then the next evening we got a call that she was found....or really that she found someone.

Here's where it gets confusing but anyone familiar with small towns will understand. I love small towns. The house she showed up at was a little over a mile from us cross country. They seen her in the morning and thought she was a stray and tried to run her off. She was back or still there later in the day. So they called a family they knew that owned a boxer. This family informed them that it wasn't there's, but (I think this is where your prayers came in!) they happened to be in the sheriffs office when my boyfriends Dad placed the call that she was missing. Wow! So they relayed that information to the family who's house Emily was at and they called. Once they found out she wasn't a stray they put her in their garage and my boyfriends parents went and picked her up. Amazingly she's not sick, no scapes or scratches or anything. She's a little thinner than she was, but she's spoiled enough she'll be filled out and sassy before we know it.

She had a tag, but it was faded and broken. Once I found out she was found, her and the other 2 dogs all got dogtags for Christmas...and are wearing them proudly now.

Thank you for your resilience fellow FarmGirls. Emily and I spent some cuddle time on the couch when I got home. Who ever knew I'd miss her snoring and farting!

I pray you sweet dog will be home very soon. Do not give up - We sold a prize winning Cashmere Billy to a friend and she put him out in a pasture with just string fencing. Of coarse he just used his horns and walked right through. We searched for months and was heart broken, the friend was just sick. Fast foreward four years, the friend moved away and I received a call from the sheriff's department asking for help in cornering a wild animal that was in a yard in the small town next to us. So my oldest son and I got in the truck and headed out. Once there we got out our ropes and panels and started to head out when all of a sudden I said to my son - "Oh my it is Peter"!! Sure enough he remember us and with just a bit of rope we got him in the truck and back to our home. He managed to care for himself for four years and has been back at the farm for the past three years - safe all be it a bit wild.

Have hope and please believe that all will turn out for the best.

Tommie,
Is there any sign of Emily yet? She might have stayed around the deer carcass and I'm hoping she was waiting at your door this morning. Prayers are on the way that your furbaby is on the way home. Check animal shelters, get the word out to friends and neighbors if she isn't back yet. Let us know how its going.

Remember, they are animals first, pets second. She'll know what to do to stay warm and protected. Until then, start asking around and see if anyone has seen her. Call the local shelter if you have one. Two of mine were gone one time and they came back seperate of each other. If she isn't spayed, she may venture for a while. Keep us posted.

Don't give up hope. Animals are so resilient and she will find her way home. Lots of prayers, positive thoughts coming your way. I understand the feeling as my 1 yo Lab disappeared 2 years ago. Gone for two days. The Rescue League had him and called us. Is your dog microchipped? Hopefully, just in case someone else finds her. Blessings, Danielle
