It almost sounds like she is having trouble breathing. Her vent area looks fine. She was almost making a long whining sound earlier when I went out to give them carrot peelings. Any ideas of what's wrong?

Just wanted to tell you that she is doing fine this morning. I'm glad, however, that I learned other things to watch out for. Thanks for the wonderful information.

HI Kristina, I had an experience with a hen making a choking/cough sound. I checked her food and found webworm. The feed store took it back (they were very embarrassed) and gave me new food. Look for clumps in their food that tend to be long and held by threadlike fibers that break easily in your hands.

She could have an upper respiratory infection. She should be kept away from the others and given some Teramycin or Tetracyclyn in her water and electrlytes. Keep her out of drafts. Plenty of liquids. I hope she will be ok soon.

do you mean could she be choking on something? We are separating her in a private coop and watching her.
