Tala is 3.5 years old now and we have been working on saddle training. I did the initial training in an english saddle that I borrowed from the barn manager. Tala did really well, but my seat isn't the greatest with English so I also didn't push too hard.

Now that she is a little older, and I have finally gotten my western saddle paid for, we are doing a bit more. We have done 3 little rides outside the arena in the western saddle and have been down all the main trails that the ranch offers. It's great! I am so thrilled! She is doing amazing!! :D

Thanks ladies!

She is the first horse I have ever trained so we kindof bumble along together. She is very sweet and kind. We were doing some work yesterday and I totally lost my balance when she slowed and stopped suddenly and I fell off. It was hilarious because that is only the second time I have ever really come off a horse. I just laid there for a second and looked up at Tala. I was pretty much right in front of her and she just looked at me like. "Uhm... what just happened here?" She didn't try to run away, kick or stomp me. And it wasn't her fault that I was unbalanced.

I just love my little horse. I got back on her and we proceeded to have a great ride. We went around the barn and down a trail that she doesn't even really like to be led down (lots of rustling trees and birds etc) and she was really good about it. We came back and went the back way around the pens and ended up back in the arena to dismount.

Wow, she's almost full grown! I bet it's fun to go riding on a horse you've trained and nurtured--sort of like when your kid gets their driver's license. Maybe that sounds weird, but they really are like kids.
