rear end. It looks like the inner lining is still stuck to the egg, but it won't come off! She's straining and nothing is happening. She pooped, but the egg is still stuck. I tried to pull it out, but there's a memebrane stuck to it. Called the vet, but no answer back yet. Afraid she will hemmorage or something.

Wow! Nothing like a little chicken surgery every now and then. Good for you, Renee! I'm glad your girl will be ok. I wonder what caused that to happen? Will she be able to lay an egg again without this happening every time? Sometimes I get an egg that's so big I know that had to hurt like heck.

Okay, it all worked out. Took her in the house and ran warm water over her to clean the area and get it nice and moist. Gently worked the membrane off the egg. She was prolapsed then, but I put KY jelly on my gloved finger and gently pushed it back in until it stayed. She seems fine now. No prolapse, just really stretched, but was shrinking back well. Thanks everyone!

Sit her down in a bucket with warm water to lossen it up, DO NOT PULL ON IT, just keep soaking til it comes off on its own. This is fairly comman in pullets, when they first start laying, just stay calm.

I'm confused. Is this a hen that has layed an egg or a chick that is hatching?
