Hi Ladies, I have read many time that people give there goats baking soda. So I have a few questions. Is it just any regular baking soda that you find in the store? How do you give it to them?

That really helps a lot Catherine! Thank you! So just give the girls baking soda and not the boys?

Good Morning Channah,

Regular baking soda can be given sprinkled on their feed. Actually, the best thing is to put it in a small mineral feeder. I have a mineral feeder that has two compartments and I put trace minerals in one side and baking soda in the other side. Then, it's just left there hanging by their other feed bowls and they have "free choice" to get them. You don't have to have the fancy feeder though, you can just make your own out of plastic containers.

If minerals and baking soda are given as free choice, the goats know when they need them and will go nibble them. The baking soda can help with the pH of their digestive system....which helps prevent bloat or other problems.

DO NOT give baking soda to bucks or wethers.....it can help cause urinary calculi (stones) which can be fatal.

I hope that helps!

love ya'
