Hi Sherry - The nest boxes you see are only located there temporarily. We had to take down their coop for the new one to be delivered so I put them there but they are still laying like crazy. They are fairly shaded but not "dark" but again just a temporary location. They attach to the wall with little hooks.

My coop does have a wood floor. Since they free range I only get poo during the nighttime so I have a "deep litter" area under the roosts. On the rest of the floor I just have a layer of wood shavings to make it easier to clean the floor off when needed.

julie what a nice place you have. your new coop is awesome. does it have a floor? are you going to do the deep litter system this winter? congratulations...i saw your egg nest boxes sitting out in a pic. I was wondering if they have a front that goes on them? since nest boxes need to be dark and quiet... like a hen who hides her eggs...hence hides her babies from bad dudes.how are those installed? thanks sherrye

That's a very cozy home for your hens. I'm sure they like it and will show there appreciation with lots of eggs.
