Rather than going through the stress of waiting on a call from the post office this year, I allowed one of our silkie hens to set hoping the chicks would hatch in time for my birthday.

As of Monday, there were 2 that were joined by #3 yesterday.

There are 2 more eggs that still might hatch today and tomorrow. And instead of mom raising them. It's been cold and super wet. I pulled the chicks and have them under a brooding lamp.

So I can play and bond w/o stressing out the hen.

Happy birthday to me! (tomorrow)

OH! And so far there is 1 black chick and 2 blond ones. I have a mystery red rooster. He appeared last year as a missed sexed female. I had asked for production reds, and red sex links, so I'm kind of puzzled how he got included. But no matter. He's got the shinest red feathers I have ever seen. And a nice attitude. So no flogging yet. Better not. And the other rooster is a HUGE Buff Orpington. Very pretty and well mannered too

Well, happy birthday to you! What a nice gift she gave you. Will there be more to hatch? That's strange to have one go broody in the winter. Have fun with them.

And I have a Buff roo, too. He is so handsome. And very well mannered. He does fluff up alot, though. Kind of makes me wonder what he's up too.
