Channah, I am glad I can be of help. I really don't know much especially when it comes to sickness or unexpected emergencies. I just panic. I have a few really good friends who I call when things like that happen. It's good to have mentors. There are so many others here who have years more experience doing this.

She may just jump right up then. My Sadie just had to learn how to jump up on it. And she is heavy. Now they all go right to their own stanchion. No problems there. They know which one is theirs. Good luck. And don't let her win! You have to keep letting her know who's the boss.

Sure thing Kristin!! If I don't send it my Tuesday send me a e-mail reminding me or I will forget. lol
It's so funny, when Joey and Sadie were little I would let them out and the first thing they would do was go up on the porch and get up on that milking stand. I wonder if Sadie will remember that. :) Anyway,, I will probably have my dad or older brother lift her up there because she is so heavy with that baby. I tried lifting her and man I could not get her of the ground. Plus at that time she really let me know that she did not want to be picked up. lol Lesson learned. :)
She can be a sweetie at times, but just like any child they all have there diffrent moods. I love her dearly though!!!

Maggie, B12 goes right in the muscle. No big deal for me. It's the shots that go under the skin I have a problem with. I always leave a bubble. Can you e'mail a pic of your stanchion? I love to see other people's. We made ours out of old wood and things we had here. So did my friend who's I alos have. So I have 3. Which is handt to have. When I was milking 6 goats I could do 3 at a time.

When you first start training her, she will probably have to be picked up and put on the stand. Then after a few days she'll jump right on up like a pro. I had to do that with my Sadie and she's a porker. And just keep messing with her udders while she
s eating because that's what you will be doing while you milk her. And have fun!

yup she is going to be a milk goat and my dad and brother are going to get the milk stanchion out this week end. I really don't like to give them shots so I use paste.

If you're going to milk her you need to be training her to the stanchion as soon as possible. And start feeding the grain only there. In the morning and evening. I have never given mine any vitamin paste. Only sometimes I give them a shot of B12 if they are droopy.

Sherry, CDT is for Coccidiosis, Tetanis, and over eating. Can't remember the name for that. The kids need that shot plus a booster a few weeks later. I give it when they are around 6 weeks old. I don't always do it. But last year we had so many kids I just thought it would be a good idea to.

Channah, I just started about a month ago feeding mine a 10% all grain and I put sunflower seeds in for the Selinium. I always give them extra hay. I also give them CDT shots about 6 weeks before they kid. I have to trim hooves about every few months.

If you are going to milk her you should only give her grain to her in the stanchion. And if she's never been milked before you need to start doing that. Touch her udders all the time. Get her used to that. But ONLY feed her grain in the stanchion. I give mine about a small scoop of grain in the evening now. But when they are in milk they get about a half a big coffee container full of 16% all grain. Sometimes I put alfalfa pellets but some don't like it. You could also use a calf manna mix, too.

Is she getting a salt block? And loose minerals?

And the most important thing is 1 day after she kids, worm her good. Then 2 weeks later do it again with something different. I use Cydectin and another one I can't remember right now.

Then 6 weeks after the kids are born they will need a CDT shot then another I think a few weeks later.

Don't worry. Most of the time they kid just fine with no help. Just be close. This is her first time so she may not know what's going on and be a little nervous so they like someone around when it's time. And if she's with other goats she will want to be near them but in a pen by herself. You'll notice a gooey string hanging from her back end. And sometimes they'll put their head in a corner. Also you should notice a big udder right toward the time they kid.

Anyway, just holler if you need anything else. She should be fine.Don't worry. And most of the time they will drop those kids right after we leave for just a few minutes.
