Hi Ladies:
Sad day. Lost my wonderful milk cow "Daisy" today. She has been a wonderful girl. Does anyone in the Tennessee area know where I can get another Jersey? Not very popular around here.

Our new addition is doing very well. She is about 5 years old just had her 2nd calf. We love her. Need a new name!HA they called her Granny!! Just can't seem to call her that. Any suggestions? I have used up all the good names on other animals around here HA

I'm so sorry about your dear cow.
And, glad you found a new one. A nice gentle cow at that.
How old is she?
I do handmilk. I'm actually on a bit of a vacation from milking right now. Our little gal (she's a short-legged Dexter) is due the first of March. And, then the work begins! |

hi, i too milk a cow. i use a surge pump and a side can. my hands do not milk any more.i have a goat lamamcha. when she freshens i will milk her by hand. she is a breeze. i am now weening the calf that has been by our cows side since birth. a little hard. i was milking oad now tad since no calf. shes holding up. well the calf is in the stall next to her. we move her to my friend lisas property sat.then we will see where i am with milk. lol i am getting cream now... so welcome to the farmgirl site and to milking cows. please we love photos of cows goats etc. and stories. sherrye

I am so glad you found your cow Waynette (love your name by the way!) I love love love my Jersey cow Mona. She is 6 now and due to have her 4th calf in May. (the time has flown by) I don't milk her by hand anymore (carpel tunnel) but use a surge milker. I can't imagine haveing a better first cow than Mona has been.

I am so happy for you! How much milk so far? I will be milking by hand in about 2 years if all goes well with this little heifer calf. I am halter training her now. She's good so far. Just 5 months old.
There has to be others that are milking cows. I do have goats that I will be milking in May and I do hand milk.

Good news! Found my dream cow. She is a beautiful little jersey. The most gentle I have dealt with. My husband on one side and me on the other. Does anyone else hand milk a cow?

Sorry for you lose, Waynette. I understand, just lost my milk goat Lucy. I was and still am devastated but now it is time to look for a new dairy goat. Like in your area, milk goats are not very popular around here, so it makes it pretty hard. Good Luck in your search! |

Try www.keepingafamilycow.com. There are so many people there that live in Tn. You have to join the forum to post, though. I will also ask my friend who has 2 Jerseys. I just bought her half Jersey half Angus heifer calf last month. She's 5 months old now. I've been halter training her since I got her. She's leading pretty good so far. But I will ask Sarah if she knows anyone with a Jersey for sale. She does have lots of milk right now, too. I have been getting milk from her since my goats are dry. Every time I go get milk, her fridge is full. So if ya need milk, she's got it.

Thanks, I am about 2 hours north of Chattanooga. I used to live in Ringgold as a child. Tried the number but no answer. Please keep looking. Where is the Keeping a Family Cow Forum? I am kinda new here.

I'm so sorry about your cow. How sad. It's always such a hard thing to lose an animal, but when it's a family cow it's so much harder. I live just a few miles from Chattanooga in Ga. I get a farm paper I could look through for you. There's always a few Jerseys for sale. Actually in this last one someone in Conyers, Ga. has a Jersey for $600. I don't know where you are or how far that is form me even, but here's the phone # 404-273-3777. 404 is around the Atlanta area. Anyway, that's all I know right now. I should get another paper in a few days.
You could also ask people on Keeping a Family Cow forum. You probably already know about that. Just a thought.
