Posted - Jan 18 2010 : 6:16:50 PM As of 7:45 pm, our new buck "Big Al" is safely tucked in our animal barn with his harem of 2 does. Round trip took us 3+ hours, we hit some of that infamous 5 pm Houston traffic. He is just a bit smaller than our does, but that won't be a problem, he needs to be groomed and he needs to put a some weight. Big Al is a bit on the scrawny side, but we'll bulk him up here on Moonshadow Farm. All in all we are pleased with him and look forward to May/June babies. I will get some pictures, as soon as, I get home tomorrow and post them.

Posted - Jan 20 2010 : 05:59:26 AM I have started the wormer medication on him, it is an organic granule, that I use for the girls. I have only been to two places and really looked at their boys. Jobi Dairy in Brenham, where we got last year's breeding from and one of my coworkers here in Magnolia,he raises Nubians, at both places the bucks were well groomed, good body condition and sweet tempered for boy goats. But you are right, some people don't take care of their boys only their does. Big Al needs a bath and a hair cut,he has mud and lots of matted hair, and I am sure those hooves need some attention but I cannot lift him so I have to wait for hubby's day off. Saturday if the weather holds, Big Al gets his "makeover"

Posted - Jan 18 2010 : 6:53:32 PM I'm so glad you got your goat. It seems like people don't take as good care of their bucks as they do the ladies. But bucks need good care, too. He sounds like he's come to the right place. You don't want the boy too fat, though. Looks like there will be some lovin' going on at the farm! I have 4 does due around the end of March and early April. They are all getting bigger every day. I can't wait to see them.
