We've been at a progress show today. Usually, both of my daughters are showing pigs and goats. This year only one is showing and she is doing rabbits for the first time. She won 2nd in Sr. Does. Her New Zealand buck and does were the only ones different from the rest of Californians.
The babies will go to county fair in March.
Yipee!!

that is so great. i think it is so good for all involved. my son led the one in his area. all the kids show horses pigs steers. very fun. they learn so very much.its sad more kids are not doing it these days. hurray for all of you sherrye |

Y'all are so great. Thanks for the congrats. I really am a proud mom. My kids get embarrassed when I gush over them so I get my gushing out here with y'all.
Cindy, I think that's funny that your hubby won't let your daughter get rabbits but she can have a steer. My hubby is the opposite. The kids and I would love to have a steer or heifer but he says "no way". So, he unknowingly lets our managerie increase with all the other animals. I'm sure that if he stopped and actually counted how many animals we have (150+-) he would flip. Perhaps he'd rethink it and say one big animal is better than a whole bunch of little ones. Although, I would never get rid of the 150, I'd just add the cow to the big, happy group!

Catherine, How wonderful for your daughter. You have a right to be so proud of her!! Good luck at State.
We do 4-H also but DH won't let DD get any rabbits. This year for the animals she is doing a chicken and a market steer, she usually does a goat project also but we didn't have any kids this winter so it will be next year again. She also does other projects too and she loves 4-H.
Sounds like your children do too! It's really wonderful.
This is my 5th year being a leader. We love it and it teaches the kids so many great things with Responsibility being a biggy!

Susan, sounds like I need you and your daughters as my mentors.
The judge today really liked my daughter and spent a lot of time after the show teaching her some things. He has invited us and anyone in our 4H club to go to his breeding facility. We are definitely gonna do that!
It was so easy today......just load up the rabbits, drive to the fairgrounds, unload the rabbits, get judged, load back up. This was totally different than having to hitch the trailer, load livestock in the trailer and unload into pens at the fairgrounds, unhitch the trailer, etc.....
I think I'm gonna like raising meat rabbits.

Congratulations! Does your daughter have a ARBA Book of Standards? If she wants to seriously show she needs good info about her breed and any others she is interested in. My daughters were in the 4-H rabbit judging project area here in MN. They learned a tremendous amount and were on state championship teams several years. A couple of their teammates work as rabbit judges now. Rachel often had champion doe and litter at the county fair because she really knew what to look for in breeding her rabbits.
Count this as a serious plug for 4-H!
Our county fair is in July here.
