Recently there was a large seizure of small animals in the Dallas area. This seizure included 726 hedgehogs, 72 chinchillas, 22 ferrets, 6 pet rats, and 41 prairie dogs among other animals such as reptiles and amphibians. There were around 30,000 small animals altogether. The small mammals are in need of warm items to put in the cages. The Hedgies need something called hedgie hats and the ferret, chinchillas and rats need hammocks. The prairie dogs are probably headed to a release into a secure wild habitat. If you are interested in making any of the hedgie hats or hammocks please e-mail me and I will get you the patterns etc. Also small fleece blankets are needed. These are just small squares of fleece hemmed on the edges. Anything of these that you could make and donate would be appreciated.

OK, so it didn't bring it back. HRR received a package from Anchorage today with several lovely Hedgie Hats. I tried to look up the name of the person in Anchorage that made them but part of the thread is missing so I am very sorry I can't thank you by name. They were very nice and will be sent to the fosters that now have the hedgies. Another one went to Austin yesterday. Being a horse owner I was very fond of the one with the horse fleece. :)

The address is the Houston Rat Rescue, 1131 Peachford Lane, Houston, TX 77062. That is my daughters rescue and she an approved rescue to take in the animals. She will be sharing whatever hammocks and blankets she gets with The Hedgehog Welfare Society and other small animal rescues. The blankets, hammocks and hedgie hats will also go with the hedgehogs to Foster and Adoptive homes. The blankets should be one or two layers of fleece, 12 to 18 inches square with hemmed edges. These can have grommets placed in the corners to make hammocks. I will send the hedgie hat pattern by e-mail. Thanks you guys the little animals will be very appreciative.

Me too, I love hedgehogs, I will do all I can to help. I wish I could rescue some. I have a HUGE enclosure perfect for them. But, I guess texas is awfully far to drive...

Could you send me the patterns too. I'll see what I can do. How big do the fleece blankets need to be? I know I have some scrap pieces of fleece, just want to make sure I have enough. I'm plannin a trip to Jo-Ann's tomorrow, they're having a great sale.

I'd like the patterns if you'd email them to me...how sad! At least they're getting the care they need now!
