We have 2 chickens that seem to have baseball sized lumps, right above their breast and below the neck, and a little off center. Does anybody know what this is? I'm going to call the vet on mon. but wanted to check here today. Thanks.

My husband gave them some more grit yesterday and today they are better, I'm learning new things everyday with these chickens! Thanks Ladies!

when my girls are full of good things to eat their crop is full and pooches out. check them in the am brfore they eat and see if it goes down.they need grit to put in their gizzard so they can grind their food. i use gravel from my driveway. they know what size they need and eat it up. the egg shell needs oyster shell to keepthe eggs strong. if they dont have enough oyster shell for making eggs they take it from their own bones. not good. also if the shells get soft then they break in the nest boxes and the chickens learn to eat their own or their girlfriends eggs.next thing you know they eat eggs like crazy and you get none. we also give them pork fat from pigs we raise. we especially do this in winter when bugs are hard to find. it helps keep them from pecking at eachother.just a thought sherrye |

their craw might be full.....try giving them some ground up egg shells....chickens need grit to help them swallow

My mom who has raised chickens most of her life (71 years young) says they propably just have full craws, but are there any other symptons?

It might be an impacted craw, or a bite that is abcessing.
