Cat gas? We adopted a rescued kitten the week of Thanksgiving. She is 7 months old but she has this problem! Just jumping up into our laps causes our eyes to burn. Is there a remedy?

Makes sense b/c cats are strictly carnivores!
So whichever bonehead decided to put a GRAIN in catfood and thought it was a good idea, is mistaken!
And yes, grains are an inferior source of proteine if you are going to feed a carnivore.
The only "grain" I would accept would be quinoa.....maybe

What's interesting is you should find your kitty eats less of the expensive food (if it has fewer grains in it). Cats can't digest grains very well, since they're strictly carnivorous, so since they don't get anything out of them nutritionally, they have to eat more to get full. The more real meat a kibble has in it, the less they have to eat to meet their nutritional needs. So usually it'll balance out for you money-wise.
15 lbs of Natural Balance ($30) lasts me about three times as long as cheaper food. :)

My kitty had that once when I let him eat eggs, now I stick to just the cat food & a brewers yeast.

Our feed store did have "taste of the wild", more spendy, but if it works...

She is an inside kitty, as we have to many strays and a visiting Racoon. Plus, I love to garden and I hate to put my hand in the soil and get a handful of cat poo.

I too have been hearing good things about TOTW. We get it at Tractor Supply.
For your cat it could indeed be the corn and filler garbage they put in lesser foods.
If this cat has access to being outside, it could also be worms. Might be worth checking this out too. Best way to save a buck first is to actually SEE this animal's fecal material. Hard to do when it is covered in cat litter, I know. So you can dig around yourself, or take a small sample in a baggie to your vet

That is why a "Taste of the Wild" is good. It doesn't have alot of fillers like the discount store brands or even some of the national name brands. It is made from venison and salmon etc. I get it at the feed store. It is a bit more expensive but it is good for them and they eat less because it has no fillers.

Nope, don't give her people food, though she would love it if we did. I will check the ingredients to see what is in it. I have thought about taking her to the vet for a check up, just for peace of mind.

Check out some of the natural cat food at Petco or even some of the farm and ranch supply stores. Maybe your cat just is having a hard time with the corn by products like Jodi said. Maybe give your kitten some probiotics with some yogurt?

Foods with a high grain content (look for corn and wheat in the ingredients) can cause upset tummies and digestive issues... look for something that doesn't have these in the first three ingredients, or ideally, none at all. :)

Well, my 6 month old kitten has gas pretty bad sometimes - because we sneak and feed him chicken, beef, and other cuts of meat from our plates...... do you feed her "people food"? I know that has got to be what causes it in my kitten. And, I know it is not so great for cats to eat people food -

Julia, don't think just because she has been wormed once (if she was) that is all she needs. Sometimes cats and dogs need to be wormed multiple times. Have a sample of her stool checked and the vet can treat her for the specific parasites she has. This has happened to me with my pets more times than I can count.

Oh dear! I was told she was wormed prior to adopting, and have been feeding her 'Special Kitty'. I am thinking that it must be her food, as her stools seem fine. What are other good brands? Never have heard of 'A taste of the wild'. Thanks for the advice. I do appreciate it

Yes we have 6 cats and have had others and I have never had one with gas. I would check for worms and then change her food. We feed something called A Taste of the Wild and it does really well for all our cats. We have them form 8 months to 16 years old, male and female. They all do really well on it.

I'm with Teresa. I've worked as a vet tech, and I can understand dogs maybe having this...but never cats. I would check her out to see what intestinal problem she may be having.

cats normaly do not have gas like that, what is she eating, and how are her stools. has she been wormed?
