Posted - Dec 21 2009 : 10:26:09 AM I put the 4 goats out today with Mazie the cow. She's been so lonely without Cowboy. So I thought I'd put the goats out there with her. She has chased them all over the place. The goats can fit through the gate to get into a little holding area. And that's where all 4 "chicken" goats are right now. Maybe if they get hungry enough they'll venture back out. They are so silly.
Last time they were all in with Mazie they were all huge pregnant. So I took them all back out again.

Posted - Dec 24 2009 : 11:38:38 AM This morning was a mess. My parents are here for Christmas. They have a camper here they stay in parked in the yard. Mom came over to make her special breakfast. A little while later my step dad came in. He asked me if the goats were supposed to be in the garage. I ran out there and the 3 Lamanchas had their heads in the same bag of grain. I got them back in. Then went after Sandy. Got her in. This time I'd left the wooden gate open after I fed the chickens.
Then about a half hour later my mom asks me if the cow was supposed to be in the front yard. So off I go again to get Mazie. I grabbed an apple first. She went back in just fine. She had gotten out the other open gate on her side.
So another busy morning here on the farm. I should get enought exercise chasing all these critters around.

Posted - Dec 22 2009 : 7:13:31 PM Melissa, I never know what will happen next around here. It's always something. Just last weekend I looked out the front window and saw a red cow out by the road. It took a few seconds for me to realize it was MY red cow! I had her out in the garden and she was up front where the fence is covered with honeysuckle vines and she just walked right over the fence. She couldn't have been out long because she was on the other side of the driveway by the road. Thank goodness she likes apples. All I have to do is call her and here she comes running. It's almost scary she's so fast. My neighbor called and said someone called her to see if it was one of her cows. She said she thought it was mine. And all I'd have to do is call her and she'll come running. And she does.
I'm thinking about getting anothe little heifer calf. She's 4 months. A Jersey cross. So Maize will have a buddy in crime again! I should have plenty of stories to write a few books. I've been told by several family members I should write a book. Maybe some day.

Posted - Dec 21 2009 : 3:04:54 PM I think mine sit around thinking up stuff. They sure pulled one over on me this time. After I had spent an hour plugging up all the holes I thought they might get out through. But all they had to do was just walk through the OPEN gate. No problem. I bet they laughed all the way to the garage, too.

Posted - Dec 21 2009 : 1:41:16 PM Goats!!! Stanley has been getting out of his pen and I finally found out how he did it. He found a weak spotin the fence and then stood up to lean it over and then using the fence as leverage he jumped over. Rats. Back to the barn both Stanley and Snowflake go. MB

Posted - Dec 21 2009 : 10:58:08 AM Well, I just went to check on them and they were all in the garage with their heads stuck in the laying mash bag. Darn. I forgot to shut the main gate and they all got out. The goats did. Not Mazie. Oh well. I'll try it again tomorrow. And make sure to shut the gate.
