I'm thrilled!!! My buffs have started laying and I've been getting more and more eggs each day. Yesterday I got a dozen!! I'm hoping it keeps up for a while so I can start selling the eggs to help pay for the cost of feed. Pretty soon the 2nd batch of banty chicks ought to start laying also. I told my daughter she can have all the banty chicks since she found both batches. She is thrilled at having her "own flock".

So we are having an EGG-cellent Christmas this year. (sorry couldn't resist)

Kris, I'm very happy you are getting so many eggs each day. Ours started out like that, then jumped to 11 a day then a dozen and occasionally 15 a day. I have one lady who usually buys from a guy whose hens stopped laying for the winter, well I sold her 18 eggs on Wednesday last week and have just gotten enough to complete her order for today of 4 dozen. I'm wondering how many she is going to be going through in a week. I've had to tell everyone not to eat any eggs cuz I'm selling them. Be careful what you wish for. ha,ha,ha. I don't mind though, I'm earning (or I should say "they are earning") the money for chicken feed.
I know you bought your chicks about a month before I got mine so I don't think yours will stop now that they have started. Not this winter anyway.
Oh, guess what DH got me for Christmas.....an incubator and egg turner!! I can't wait to hatch out my own chicks this spring. I'm going to try to hatch some out so they start laying in October so maybe I can hit that niche market again next winter. We'll see how it goes, God willing.

Cindy, the last 2 days I have gotten 8 eggs each day! And so nice and clean, too. I have 4 different places I have to go gather them. I get plenty of exercise doing it. I really like just having 20 hens, too. If the game hens are laying, I haven't seen theres yet. And Hildi's not laying either. She lays green eggs.

I am so glad you're getting enough to sell now. Isn't that great? I might have enough soon. I am just afriad to sell any now because they might stop laying. It's an awful fear.

Diana- That's a great idea to have them meet me at a location convenient for me. Smart lady!

Sarah- thanks for the info.

Kris- Congrats, I'm very happy for you. My girls are going between 11 and 15 a day now. I'm very thrilled.

Hey Kristin. You know a good way to tell if eggs are good without having to crack them is to put them in a deep bowl of water. If they sink and stay at the bottom, they are good. If they float, they are bad. My girls hide their eggs too, eveeryday is Easter here, hunting for those eggs....

Cindy, I found the mother lode today! Me and Kansas found 4 eggs yesterday under the bench in the goat barn. I had Kansas bend over to get them for me. If she had reached in another foot she'd have found the big nest. I found 14 eggs! Plus the 7 fresh ones I got today. They'll probably go somewhere else tomorrow and I'll have to look for them again. But that means I have more than 7 hens laying now! Yee haa!! I put the 14 eggs separate from the freshest ones and I'll crack them one at a time to make sure they are good. But they can't be more than a few days old. I have 2 whole dozen eggs in my kitchen now! Man, this is great.

I sure get my exercise hunting eggs around here!

A farmers wife I met told me to feed chickens chili pepper in the winter to encourage them to lay. Sounds a little odd to me but who knows...

Hey Cindy our Breakfest dinner was sooooo good it has been so long since we have had good chicken eggs. I say keep your price, I will continue to save cartons. I had a gentleman on the street ask me if I was selling eggs I should have had him wait to talk to you.
When I had my Girls I would call my customers to get orders and meet them all at one spot usually Kings that way they did alot of the driving.
A good book an an hour later I had the egg money.
I love the bag too.

Kris-HOW EXCITING!!! I'm very glad for you and your increased production.

Diana-Thank you so much for being my first customer. I stopped somewhere else after we met and was bubbling about having sold my eggs and a woman said she usually buys from a guy whose hens aren't laying this winter and she wanted 4 doz eggs. I told her I could probably get her 1 1/2 doz by tomorrow afternoon and she said that would get her by until she comes back into Orofino next week to work. She pays that guy the same amount you gave me, so ........Thanks to you it sounds like I'm beginning an egg business. I'm going to look for more customers in Orofino and make a once a week delivery there to save on fuel. Also, thank you for the yummy goodies. I'm having to hide them so I can have some before the family devours them. :)
Thank you again!!!

Cindy, I could hardly belive it but in the goat barn under this low shelf where I have fed the goats hay, we found 4 eggs today! And another one in the front hen house. So 5 eggs today! I have 10 eggs in my eggs basket on the kitchen counter now. This is so cool! I love it. There's nothing like fresh eggs. We might just catch up to you soon. Watch out!

Cindy, my granddaughter was playing out in the old chicken coop awhile ago. I asked her if there were any eggs out there. She said yes. She found 4 eggs in the nest box! We left 1 so maybe they'll lay some more. I was completely shocked. They've all been out back for several months now. I did see 2 hens out there this morning.

Kris, I don't know the secret. :) I do know I'm feeding a lot of grain for all those girls each day right now. I can't wait until they can free range in spring.

Diana, I'd love the cartons and even flats. As far as eggs go, I've got 2 dozen sitting in the fridge from the last 2 days, the sizes are all varied. Give me a call tonight and I can meet you in town when you go to the bank.

Oh you lucky lady chicken keeper you! I am so jealous. I got 1 yesterday and it was laying right in the goat barn on the floor. I had to let all mine out because something got one of my girls. So they are free rangin' again.

So what's your secret?
