I have a cat that has a cut on the side of its face. Should I try to get the hair out from around it is looks to be closed up not infected and doesn't seem to bothering her.
I saw blood in the animal room and traced it to her so it is about 24 hours old. Cats in good shape up to date on all her shots and fixed. Just a real loner.

She is already doing great today no ooze not blood no swelling no infection. We are on the mend.

Cats are pretty good at healing themselves. We had one once that broke his leg. We were afraid we would have to put him down. We took him to an old country vet that put a pin in his leg. He lived with that pin for about 12 years. The thing was that the vet said to me "It is funny about cats, if they get hurt and you can get all the parts in the same box they will heal". That same cat stabbed himself in the belly with something. He had a huge hole big enough to get your thumb in and about an inch deep. It got infected and was oozing puss. That is how we found the hole. We cleaned it out gave him antibiotics and he was great. So just keep it clean and watch it.

My country vet tells me when I call all stressed over a wounded cat, stick to warm water rinsing, mild solution of betadine, and then to leave the wound open, it's when it scabs before the natural process of "oozing" that you need to intervene. Yes, I have had to pull scabs many times, and even our most "tom" cats have allowed it, as though they know it's necessary. My cats have had some of the most awful wounds, the most I've had to do to intervene with a wound is to soak in warm water for just a few minutes. One wound from a cat fight, left a long laceration on the back of the leg, the wound burst in the tub of warm water, then we washed it periodically with Betadine solution and let it heal without topical med's. Again, the vet says to leave the wound open as much as possible, removing the scab in the first few days if necessary, then when it's no longer oozing, allow it to scab and heal. The cat's own cleaning will remove any topical applications.

Neosporin it is and I will keep an I on it. The tumeric you use just the stuff in the spice isle or some thing more.

I make a paste of turmeric and aloe gel. I use this on humans and animals. It's very good and heals fast. You might need to get one of those collars to put on her head so she won't scratch off anything you put on her. I used the paste on my hubby's foot when he had a foot ulcer. He's diabetic and it healed it when conventional meds didn't. I stepped on a nail once and used it on my foot. It's great on anything.

Tea Tree oil should not be used on cats. It is ok for dogs but really shouldn't be used on cats. Horses Ok, cows, goat, pigs but not cats. The neosporin would be better. Cats lick themselves and will lick off the tea tree oil. Also, the tea tree oil will pass through the skin. I would just wash it good and watch it. You could use chamomile tea to wash it with and that is antiseptic.

I have used neosporin for years on my cats, dogs, chickens etc. The Vet I worked for years ago, said I can sell you an antibiotic ointment for a bunch of money, or you can go to the store and buy neosporin.

You are right Jodi. Sorry about that. I thought because it's in cat and dog shampoos. They say not to put it on strate but you could mix it will water.

Tea tree oil is a great antiseptic, as Channah pointed out, but for some reason I'm thinking it may be toxic to cats...might want to look into that. I can't remember for sure...... :-/

I was just going to say to wash the cut and put tea tree oil on it. I would do that for a few days and watch it.

I would try to put a warm cloth on the cut, maybe get any dried blood off. I'd also watch to see if the cut area gets swollen. If so, I'd bring the cat to the vet. Good luck. Keep us posted. Prayers to you and the little cat.
