I will be picking up our newest addition to the farm family this afternoon. A 6-week old mini dashound mix girl As of tonight our "big" girl LeaLou (6 months) terrier mix from county ASPCA (this past June) will have a sister. Our sweet love monkey (AKA LeaLou) has dug up every potted plant on the front porch, removed the glider cushions (all in a storage box now) too many times to count, mangled the drip irrigation tubes for the hydrangeas, pulled the fountain pump out of the gold fish pond and destroyed it, played with 2 laying hens until they quit moving (while I was at work), drags a small piece of firewood (1 ft long by 3 inches wide) to gnaw on, picks on the goats through the fence, DH has to spend 30 minutes picking up puppy toys before he can mow and is the best little watch dog. Both of our girls will be going to puppy school, as soon as, I can get them enrolled. All in all we never thought about taking LeaLou back to the county, we just love her and will work on her little problems, and we are hoping now that she has a friend some of her energy will be used up.

Hey, it taks a lot to ruffle this old farmgirl's feathers and advice is always welcome. I have watched Cesar and I will check out his website today. The puppy is so small, even a cat collar was too big this morning. I did not realize how much energy LeaLou had, and it is my fault she is developing bad habits and I will start correcting that today.

The reason Beverly doesnt have 13 dogs is because she gave me 4, love them all! I try to get my animals on the buddy system too. Then when they make a mess, they can blame it on the other one.

oh they will be so busy playing with each other they won't have time to mess with things anymore. Congrats and have fun..Patience is a virtue!!! hehehehehe When I get a dog I always get 2 so they have a buddy. well I guess that is why I have 8 dogs. Love them all... 5 of them are dachshunds, so you will love her...

That just sounds tooo cute! Enjoy.

Have you ever watched "The Dog Whisperer" on channel 276? He says, absolute 1st thing to do when you get the dog home is put it on a leash and walk it. It places you as the "pack leader", exercises the dog to burn off stress it's under from new situation. He has several excellent guidelines...Exercise, discipline, then affection. (discipline isn't about rubbing noses or newspapers, etc. it's about establishing that you're the pack leader and you are training the dog to be part of your pack, so, when they act out or so on, Cesar Milan uses a sound like CHHHHHch..and the dog gets the message. While people love their animals like they are part of the family, and they absolutely are, they still have to be considered dogs. When we learn to relate to them acknowledging that they are dogs, they behave well, because they are doing what they are, being dogs...we can control them the same way other dogs do...they are healthier and more balanced as a result of established rules, boundaries, and limitations.
It sounds like the 1st darling doggie needs more exercise, to burn off pent up energy & tire it out and it won't be destructive from pent up energy. I hope you won't be offended, I'm not the expert, but Cesar is and he's proven his methods work every single time. He has books and a website. I've even tried his method with the cat, it works. Our dog, a member of our family for 17 years, has been gone to her eternal rest for about 3 yrs now, and I haven't been able to bear having another dog yet, but the cat has responded incredibly well to the methods. Hope all goes well for you and your new extended family and you'll all have tremendous joy and love!

Say to them, may the Lord bless you and protect you, May the Lord smile upon you and be gracious to you. May the Lord show you His favor and give you His peace. (Numbers 6:23-26)

Hopefully you will get LeaLou broke of her bad habits before she can teach the new pup, lol. Unfortunatly she is at that age, and she's a terrier to boot. Congrads on both, and have fun.
