I ordered 2 buckeye hens from Meyers hatchery along with 24 broilers and a few other breeds. We received them about 1 week ago and so far so good. I had to call Meyers to arrange delivery times, which was totally my fault, and the person that I spoke with was very pleasant and helpful. I can let you know how are newbies turn out if you would like. I found their prices to be competative with others in the area and they had a pretty good selection. I don't know about delivery outside of the US though. Hope this helps some,

take care~mag

Welcome Kimberly!

It would be great to hear what you think about Meyers. Getting a review from first hand experience is always really nice and helpful towards making a decision.

Hi folks, newbie here, but I did a search on Buckeye Chickens and here we are...We currently have Buckeyes and this is our first year hatching. I too am looking for more fresh stock and found Meyers isn't too far so I'm going to order and do a local pickup. I wouldn't count them out just yet as a supplier, but I know getting them to Canada is the tricky part...I'll let everyone know how the birds turn out.

I think I'll just go ahead and get birds from Sandhill since I feel confident that they have great stock. What's the sense of propagating a breed if it does damage? Even if I have to wait a year I already have some misc pullets that will keep me in eggs in 4-6 months.

The folks at Sandhill preservation only have the best and truest birds. If you order from them, expect a good year wait. Their birds are THAT much in demand and well worth the effort.

I believe they are the founders of the Society of Preservation of Poultry Antiquities. This guy has dedicated his life to his birds.

They are a small, family run farm - both husband and wife work off the farm.

I've not had any dealings with Meyer, so I can't comment on them.

Does anyone know about the Meyer Hatchery? i've never heard of it but their prices are great. Especially on the Buckeyes which i was thinking of getting from Sandhill but $1.50 at Meyer compared to $3.50 at Sandhill is a pretty big difference. it also makes me wonder if there is a quality difference. Since i'm hoping that i might be able breed them quality counts. And then there's the losses that could occur if health is an issue.... decisions, decisions.

Oops just read your post again and see you were asking for Canada. I also found this web site http://www.feathersite.com/Poultry/BRKHatcheries.html that lists several hatcheries in Canada.

Well I googled Ohio hatcher and found http://www.meyerhatchery.com/get_dept_3.htm, http://www.ridgwayhatchery.com/main.htm, http://www.mthealthy.com/us.html and this address for the one (I think) I bought my Arucuanas at many years ago - Eagle Nest Poultry, Box 504, Oceola, OH 44860, 419-562-1993 - althought I seem to remember it being in Chatfield, not Oceola... I stopped by on my way home from Michigan- they don't seem to have a web site.

Meyers was the only one that actually listed Buckeyes on their web site. You would think that Ohio hatcheries would be the ones with Buckeye chickens, though, wouldn't you?

Are you near a border town? This place will ship to a US border town but it's expensive.

http://www.sandhillpreservation.com/Poultry%202005.htm#General%20Poultry%20Information

"CANADIAN POULTRY ORDERS: Customs paperwork is expensive. Shipments to a U.S. Border town post office will be available on any of our hatch dates. The cost will be $60.00 extra per shipment for the paper work involved. We also require that you use the Express Mail Service (see postage chart) for any orders being sent for a Canadian border crossing. This usually gives better service so that you don't have to wait an extra day at the border town for your chicks to show up."
