I have a poor pullet with an impacted crop. She was already underweight and we were concerned about her making it through the winter, but now this. We have her in the house and we're putting pedialyte down there with a tube every hour or so (vet's recommendation), but I think we're going to try some oil and then baking soda/water combo (internet recommendation). She just doesn't seem able to pass it up or out. It would be $300 for surgery! We're keeping our fingers crossed that Pearl will pull through before it comes to that.

I'm really sorry about Pearl. But, please don't give up chickens are so wonderful. There are good years and bad ones and even good and bad sets of chicks. I had a terrible chicken year this year but, I'm certain next year will be better. I've had entire sets of chicks be sick & die before, sometimes things just happen. In over 20 years of having chickens this year was the worst, I had less eggs out of more hens than ever. We had such screwy weather this summer that they were confused from day one. It will get better I promise!

I'm sorry to report that Pearl passed away yesterday. I've had some terrible luck with chickens. My first three girls came down with cordyza and died, and now Pearl is gone. I only have Roxy and Frannie left. My husband, who was a reluctant participant in this chicken experiment, has pleaded with me to get no more chickens, and after yesterday's heartbreak, I agree. I really hope my two girls live a long life together because there won't be any new girls coming along.

I've never had a bird with an impacted crop, but you might try gently massaging it. I n addition to what you've been doing.

Poor baby, hope she feels better soon! Too bad prune juice doesn't work on them like it does us.
