we have inside kitties again. I have one of those noses that doesn't tolerate litter boxes very well, so we had given up on the notion of having an inside kitty. Well we have babies. They are about 6 weeks old or so. And we haven't seen the momma in a few days. I woke to pouring rains in the wee hours of the morning. And my first thought was, "oh those poor babies" and I wondered if their momma had ever come back.

No sign of momma again this morning. I had the kids go out and catch the babies and bring them in. We fixed them up a litter box and bed. I think they like being in the house. Hallie's kitty has a SUPER loud mouth though. She's about to drive the dog insane. Poor Ruby. She likes the kittens, but only in small doses. I'll try to post pics later.

Thank you Jennifer. I was thinking of getting them an enclosed litter box. At first I wasn't sure if the lil things could get into it. We were keeping them in this huge plastic tote, but the lil houdinis wanted no part of it. So they are running the house with Ruby. Now if I can just find a way to keep Ruby out of the kitty food. Dogs- go figure, would much rather eat cat food than dog food and then wonder why they're in trouble for pooing on the floor.
I'll be sure to check into those things at Wally World. I'm headed that way in just a bit.

Melanie,
I have found that my favorite is Pro-Pet Fresh Results from Walmart. It's in a purple bag. It's a little more expensive but, it's all-natural, less dust and controls the odors. It's made from corn cob granules and not clay. Another thing that helps a ton with dust and odor is have them start to use an enclosed litter box. I got "Boomers" at walmart as well, it was about $20 but, we've had it over a year and it's still perfect. It has a swinging window in front that they go in and out of. I just set it up and pushed him inside once and ever since he's found his spot. I even had to wait till he was about 4 months old because of his cast he couldn't climb up in it so it should be easy for your babies to learn. Hope this helps, keep me updated!

Warm Wishes

Melanie, I have the same problem with the dust from the litter...more often than not, I find it more irritating than the actual cat odor! The best thing I've found is the litter pearls...silica pearls. They're usually a bit dusty when you pour them into the box, but after that, they don't have half the dust that clay litter does. They're great with odor, too, but they do need to be changed more often since it simply absorbs urine...it's not a "clumping" type. Different brands vary in effectivness, too...the best I found was a cheap generic brand in a small-ish bag that sold at Walmart...but couldn't find it when I moved. But anywhoo... Good luck!!

perhaps once they are litter trained and older you can either teach them to use the toilet (no joke on that one) or to put their box outside somewhere (either out back or in a garage) then they can just go to the door to let you know when they have to use it. ofcourse the latter only works if someone is around all the time.

Jennifer- Oh your poor baby. I'm so glad you able to save him. Talk about 9 lives.
Can you give me a suggestion of a good litter to use. Sometimes it's the smell of the kitty #1 or #2 that will irritate my sniffer, but mostly it's the dust from the litter box. Right now we live in a very teeny 2 bdr mobile home, but we are going to be moving into my mamaw's old house and it is sooooo much bigger and hopefully I will not be as aggravted by the dust of the litter.

And do you believe our babies already learned to use their litter box last night?! I have never had a kitty that young take to the box like that. Right now they are all curled up together napping. Oh I forgot to tell you what the kids have decided to name them. Yeah three kids and three kitties- one for each. LOL Hallie named her kitty Sparkle. Matthew named his Venus and Caitie named hers Mars. The momma's name was Star. We still haven't found her.

I know aren't liter boxes the worst? Well, I thought so to until a year and a half ago. Some stray mama kitty stashed the kittens in the motor of my neighbors tractor. He didn't know it and started it one day. They were all chopped to bits and there was one little survivor. His wife came running up to my house with this little guy, she said her hubbs was gonna put him out of his pain. My hubbs said we would take care of it as they had kids and he didn't want them to be sad. We didn't think he would live through the night but, he agreed we should at least try. His leg was broke, jaw was broke (lower portion split in two) and had a toe cut off. This little guy had a will to live and after 3 days he was doing great so we got a cast for his leg and away he went chasing the dog around the house. Needless to say we all, even the dog, fell in love. He seems to have some damage to his smeller so yep, in the house he lives. I hate those stinky boxes but, I've figured out how to keep it clean and fresh so now when he comes into bed at 3:00am cuddling the dog and settling in it's all worth it!! Gotta love those pets!

They are doing just fine. One is playing with a string and the other two are chowing down on some kitten chow. I think our pooch Ruby has somewhat gotten adjusted to sharing the house with them. She's not peering down into the box at them. She finally decided to lay down and take a nap.

Oh I know what you are going though. Good luck with it.
I found a kitten in August. Not what I needed, but could not leave the poor little thing. She did turn into a barn kitty, she was a bit too naughty in the house. My son had brought home a tiny kitten he found last year. She is in and out.
One thing the cats seem to be good mousers.
