It sure is helpful, when you got a good dog. Calf was out yesterday, and we walked her back and forth, lots of times. Could not get her to go in. Finally got Ruby ( border collie ) on her. She nipped at her heels a few times, and went right in. Hopefully the calf will remember that, and not be tempted to go through the fence again!

Our friend has a very naughty Jack Russel, but, she is such a cute, little, spunky thing that just makes us laugh.

My Grandparents had standard Collies, Smokey and Cindy. They were excellent herders, always knew when to get the cows in for milking and always knew when one was missing or in trouble. Smokey had a penchant for moving hubcaps, so, he didn't stay around long. Cindy was around for 14 years and did her job well. Including keeping all of us grandkids in line. She would rebuke us older kids when we got too wild with the younger ones. If anyone would drive into the driveway and we were out playing, Cindy would sound the alarm and would "round us up" to make sure we were safe until Grandma came out. She had several batches of pups that were all good herders, too. I have always had companion type dogs (Keeshonden, German Shepherd Mixes and more recently a Golden that we rescued. I don't really have a job for them except to keep the rodents and herbivores from snatching my garden goods. I love(d) all of them!

I don't know what I'd do without my golden, Lizzie. She's been the best companion throughout my illness this year and still she follows me around and will lay down close to wherever I sit. She seems to sense when I'm feeling bad and will watch me when she thinks I'm sick.

Good dogs are wonderful!!!
My good dog knows how to make me feel better....he climbs up in my lap and licks my face all over until I'm laughing!!! :) The other one just acts silly, until I laugh, lol!!!!
They are Golden Retrievers.
Husband is hoping to make one of them a hunting dog though. She will make a good hunter. My male, Bear is good for nothing, husband says, but he is definitely my heart dog. :)
I know how important it is to have good working dogs on a farm though, and Michele Ruby obviously knows just what to do! I'm sure you are proud of her.

Bramble is the BESTEST dog in the West!!!
She is an Australian cattle dog, sweet, fun, loving, gentle, totally devoted and very well-behaved.
Sic her on one of our Longhorns when they get unruly . . . well, Bramble knows her stuff!!!
Yup . . . the BESTEST!!!

A good ranch/farm/family dog is worth more than its weight in gold.

Yes good dogs are wonderful! Sky is a good dog too! Nora climbs all over her and she good naturedly goes along with it.

Michele- have you seen the LED Sheep video on you tube? Those dogs are amazing! I would love to have a dog that well trained!

Yep,

A good dog is a blessing for sure

I own a Belgian Tervuren, so I too know all about those herding breeds.
