Posted - Sep 12 2009 : 08:52:15 AM We have some new hens who have just started laying. One of the aracauna's layed 1 double yolked egg about a week ago and hasn't layed one since. Is this normal, or should I be worried?

Posted - Sep 13 2009 : 10:04:17 AM You should be able to feel if she has an egg stuck inside, either its too large or she is dry. If she is egg bound, and you are not able to remove that egg, she will die, and its a painful death, so then you will have to deceide whether or not to put her down. A pullet that is laying double yolkers right off the bat will be more prone to getting egg bound.

Posted - Sep 13 2009 : 09:32:15 AM I meant I was worried that she hadn't laid anymore eggs. If she's egg bound should I be able to tell something's amiss by looking at her vent? Thanks everyone.

Posted - Sep 12 2009 : 5:01:48 PM Are you saying she has'nt laid another egg, or just that the following have not been doubles. If she has not laid another egg since then, you need to check that she isn't egg bound.
