Tala and I have been playing around this summer, doing a little bit of training but this past week I have really buckled down and decided to get some good work done each time we are out at the barn.

At the middle of August, Tala did great on her go cues- Walk- Sure! Trot- Even better! Canter- YEE HAW! Slow down? Canter to trot- I guess...if you insist! Trot to Walk- HA! Try and make me!

So this week we have been working on trot-walk, walk-trot, trot-walk over and over again! At first she just wanted to bomb around the circle on the lunge line, and even though I have been working on desensitizing her to the lunge whip- she still thinks it is going to eat her, so for the time being the lunge whip is only used for desensitization and not for lunging.

Last night after a couple fast circles on the lunge line, she settled down and did all of her transitions wonderfully! She was very quick to do her downward transitions and listened carefully for my cues.

We also practiced standing up properly for Sport Horse In-Hand showing and practiced walking and trotting the triangles. She is going to be fantastic once she figures out exactly what I want her to do.

Then we did an 'Exercise for Alee" circuit of the indoor arena at a full run for me- a medium fast trot for Tala and I gasped and wheezed as I put our things in the tack room. I guess I have a lot of conditioning of my self to do before we are "Show ready"! LOL

I am aiming for a big Arabian horse show here in Billings at the End of May each year. I wish I could show her a little earlier than that but she and I won't be ready. Someday I want someone to video tape our training session so I can see where we both need to improve...hmmm... Maybe Hubby could do that for me...

Thanks, Amanda! Tala has always been a sweetie- it just has been a question of how many times I have to "ask" her to slow before she obeys. :D
