Posted - Aug 21 2009 : 09:57:48 AM I have a momma Guinea that has little babies that were hatched a few weeks back. I also have 3 momma hens that are laying on eggs. So far I have two little chicks that have hatched. I want to try to put the new babies with the momma Guinea. Has anyone been successful in doing that? I just tried the mom seems a little nervous. Any ideas? Thank you for your help

Chicken henas make such good mothers
I have read that whan you make a switch with eggs under a hen or chicks its best to do it late at night while the birds are roosting
Just place babies beneath the hen. They aren't all that smart, and will hopefully take to their instant family |

Posted - Aug 21 2009 : 4:18:32 PM I would rather have the hens raise the babies than the guineas. Guineas are known to be bad mothers. Hens are more motherly and protective. Although my whole flock of guineas are raising one mother's keats. And they don't hurt them where a baby chick will get pecked to death by other hens. But I don't know if putting already hatched chicks in with a guinea hen will work. Maybe if you had put them under the guinea. But then guinea eggs go 28 days where chicks go 21 days. So how confused are you now? I am. Guineas are a nervous bird for sure. I would love to know how this works if it does. I have seen this work but they have to hatch them theirselves to get it to bond.
I don't know if I have made any sense at all or just confused you more. Sorry. I know what I want to say but writing it is totally not the same. Gook luck anyway. I know someone else has had this same experience and will pipe in soon.
