I remember this topic was discussed a while ago, sorry if it is a repeat. Does anyone use a different method for controlling chicken worms than diatomecous earth or the medicine "Worm Off"?
One of my bantams passed an impressive number of round worms today. I rushed to the local feed store and they gave me a "worm off" tablet for each of my chickens(two!). Now I am researching this med. on the internet and read that we should discard all eggs for the next two weeks due to the drugs being passed into the eggs. I am not too heartbroken about the eggs as both gals are molting and not producing many eggs right now anyway. But, there has got to be a better way!
Any ideas or input will be greatly appreciated.
On another note, does anyone know how long it takes for a Brahma bantam to molt? |

I have had chickens for 3 years. Yesterday I saw a worm ....how do they get them and why now?

Try Garlic.....give them a bit each day for a week.

When I worked at Meyer Hatchery and sold the Wazine, we told customers to not eat eggs for 30 days. That's a long time. I've done both the apple cider vinegar and the Diatomaceous Earth (aka Red Lake Earth). I've been really happy with how my chicken flocks health is and egg production is going. Haven't heard of the Verm-X but it definitely sounds like something worth looking into! Good Luck!

In the Oct/Nov 2009 edition of Backyard Poultry there is an interesting article, "Fall Season Herbal Wormer & Alternative". The herbalist authors suggest remedies of seasonal plants to help build immunity in your chickens against varied worms and parasites. The authors suggest a fall remedy of pumpkin (meat and seed), grated carrots, crushed raw garlic, and dandelion leaf given to the chickens (free choice) for two weeks.
Does anyone have any experience with this? |

We have raised all our animals to eat. We've never used anything but Verm-X which is natural. I use the pellets for them to eat and you don't lose any eggs. They're web site will list the natural ingredients in all they're products.

You can get Wazine at a feed store, just put it in the water. You will have to do the same thign no eggs for 10-12 days

Put some apple cider vinegar in their water. I do that about once a month. About a 1/2 cup per gallon of water. Good for all animals. I have never wormed my chickens. Just do that.

2-4 weeks for a complete moult, as far as wormer, I use worm off myself on the chickens, discard eggs for 2 weeks on the laying hens, and 4 weeks before butchering
