I have a duck sitting on a nest of thirteen eggs. Exciting? Well...the father of the potential ducklings is also the father of the mother duck. Any ideas what to expect??? I'm a little nervous!

Ok, I understand now, wink, wink!

I didn't mean for real ..just call it that..wink wink...I just meant they wouldn't be all screwed up mentally or physically...just inbred.
Mucovies are my favorites too...the best moms ever!

I disagree to a point, if you are are to butcher this clutch of ducklings, OK, a mistake was made, but this is in-breeding , not line breeding. You definatly need differant blood, and make sure the drake and hen complement each other as far as confirmation, when you have a un-related pair, either sell/butcher the clutch, or seperate the clutch by sex, from the parents. I love Muscovys, best fly getters in the barn areas.

Phew! Thanks so much Jenny. I was truly concerned with what the outcome of this might have been...I can relax now!!
In the meantime I will seek out another with Muscovies and do a little genetic swapping! I truly enjoy these ducks and they are such pets. The little female is the princess of the farm (just ask her!) and a real comic.
Thanks again. xo

They will be fine. I have had that happen before. Just call it line breeding. Seriously, even with sheep and goats, and rabbits, sometimes you do a father daughter breeding (I know...ewww but seriously it IS different for animals) but you want to make more sure not to have a brother sister or mother /son breeding. More problems can happen. And you don't want to do a grandfather/granddaughter breeding either...just really emphasises any bad points. Don't be nervous.
