Actually his name is Rodney (Rod Stewart because of his fun "hair style") and he's Bantam rooster that one of my best friends gave me last year. Then I bought the "girls" in August...a mixture of 24 egg layers from McMurray Hatchery.
Well, now here's my dilema...one of my hens is trying to hatch some babies and the daddy, off course, will be Rodney the Shorty. (I've taken the eggs away every day but she's really bound and determined to sit.) I really don't want a mixture of regular chickens and Bantie size and will eventually get a big rooster for my hens. Anyway, I thought I'd let her sit on 2 eggs and I used a marker to mark them so I can tell them apart from the others. Lo and behold! .........today she sat on another batch of eggs and the heck with the marked ones!
Obviously this hen is not understanding that I'm trying to compromise LOL! Any advice?

Are you trying to break the broodiness? If so you can put her in a cage (like a show cage or rabbit cage) with a wire bottom. Don't give her any nesting material just food and water. Give her a couple of days in the cage and that should work. I personally have never tried this, but know several people that swear by it. And of course occasionally there is the one hen that won't break.

Most broody hens will sit 21-22 days after last layed egg, but if they are partly fake, after the real ones hatch, and she hears no peeps from the fakes, she will abandone the fakes. I have had some become such die hard sitters, they have died on the nest, due to not eating or drinking, so keep a good watch, and make sure she is getting up to eat and drink.

What ever eggs you pull from her, replace with fake. I have had the same problem in the past, and a friend told me to try the fake egg trick, and it worked.
