Posted - Jun 11 2009 : 9:07:21 PM Oh my word, ladies! I think Tala and I have turned a corner in our relationship. She has always been sweet and very willing but today our round pen session was the best yet! She was very eager to come in to me, whereas before she has just turned in and then slowly come in. She is such a sweet heart and has been given Nora very nice little pony rides (don't worry I have been very safe about it!). I figure this is slowly getting her used to the idea of people riding her.
I let her wear a bridle for a just a few minutes today. She wasn't quite sure what she thought of the bit, but she was so sweet and kind and accepted it each time.
I even did some pre-mounting work to get her used to someone being up and kindof on her back. Of course, being only 2 and an Arab, she is still WAY too young to ride and she is a small 2 right now as well. She has quite a lot of growing to do this year. I am will be putting her on a growing horse feed once we get to Montana.
It was a fabulous day and as a treat I let her graze in the really long and lush grass that used to be hay field but now is just a little extra space in front of the new indoor school that the Ranch built. I am going to miss her when I go home!!

Posted - Jun 12 2009 : 06:54:51 AM I sure will Cindy!
I wish the Ranch was mine, but it's not. I am just here because I was ranch-sitting while my friends were in Kentucky at a horse show. They will be back home today though. Tala is going to come live with me in Montana after 4th of July! :D

Posted - Jun 11 2009 : 9:36:54 PM Sounds like you've found heaven on Earth--a sweet horse, a ranch in the wilderness--and here I am stuck in Illinois! Oh well, I'm happy for you that Tala is responding so well to your training. Arabs are so sweet. The only stallion I've ever petted was an arab.I've never ridden one though--I can understand how you feel about having to wait till she grows some more. I can just see her giving little Nora pony rides--there's nothing like having a gentle horse for the wee folk to ride on. Give Tala a big horse hug from someone who wishes she had a horse to love... Cindy
