DH brought home three pigs to feed out. A farm just isn't a farm when there aren't any farm animals on it. We have rented this place for a long time, but in the area where I live it's pretty much all grain farming and the farms don't have livestock on them. Once in a while there will be a few head of cattle or horses, but basically, one area farmer told me, he would rather go to high school basketball games and Mexico in the off season than take care of a bunch of livestock. Now, what kinda farmer is that????? I just can't help but feel that livestock are the heart of the farm.

Alee their butcher date is first part of Sept. They aren't piglets. They are at the weight most people send them to the butcher, but we prefer larger hogs. By feeding them out to a larger weight we get bigger chops, etc. We make sure they don't get fat, just large. If you have never seen breeding stock in hogs, you have no idea at how large they can get! Also, seeing as we don't raise them from birth, this way we can make sure they don't have anything in their system that we don't want to eat.

Have fun raising the piggies. They are sure cute when they are little. I have had two for about a month now. They grow fast and they can sure rotortill up an area quickly.

Teresa, we just bought 4 piglets about a month ago. Boy are they growing. We spent all afternoon yesterday getting them settled into their new pasture. We had been keeping them in a barn stall. Phew!!
So far they have been really fun to watch, they are so playful.
I also know when they get out of the "cute" stage, they should be delish!

I am glad you gotcha some pigs. They are fun and so cute when they are little. And I sure love bacon. But no more for this farm. Have fun with them.
