Well.... for the first time ever we have fleas on my chihuahua (Lani) and kitty (Little Fuzzy). They are indoor pets, but go out, and we have lots of strays in the area plus a cat who lives on the porch (Mr. Fuzzy). They aren't completely infested, but are itching and biting, and I have gotten a couple off Lani. I bought Sentry Natural Defense spray for cats.... put it on both the dog and the cat. Then I find a bunch of negative stuff online about it. Of course it was from 2007 so for all I know it was a total different formulation. It has peppermint oil, cinnamon oil, lemon grass oil, clove oil, thyme oil, vanillin, isopropyl myristate, 2-propanol (isopropyl alcohol).... that is it. But lots of people said it caused bad reactions, some even said their pets had to go to the vet. Well, then I start worrying about it so I gave Lani a bath, and yes, I gave Little Fuzzy one too! She was NOT happy! So I may have overreacted (!) but now I don't know what to do! I have heard Borax on the rugs too, but then I heard Borax is very toxic to cats and dogs. I also have been putting garlic in their food.... it is suppose to make them taste bad to fleas. Anyone have any ideas? Anyone ever use this product? I don't want it to get out of control! Thanks!

If your pets are kept primarily indoors, it helps to add some brewer's yeast flakes to their food--it builds up in the blood and the fleas don't like it. Be sure to vacuum your carpets or rugs and wash their bedding. I had a flea problem with my dog but since giving him brewer's yeast I haven't seen a single flea. Also read Dr. Pitcairn's Guide to natural Pet Care for how to make your own flea repellents. If all else fails give them a flea bath--the shampoo will kill the fleas and you can wash it off them with little residue left to possibly cause a reaction.

Kristi, one problem i have found over the years with fleas is that you can't get rid of them just by getting them off the animals. you also have to get rid of them out of the house. i have found that if you take a dish and fill it with joy or dawn dish soap and put it on the floor they dive right in. it helps alot.

seems to be a bad year for fleas, im also starting to have problems that are needing to be treated. good luck!!
