We have 3 bottle fed goat babies here on the farm. One is in with the big goats, and two are still a bit too little, so they live in the goat-friendly backyard. Well it has been goat friendly up until now.

I went out to feed them this morning and had a heart attack. The youngest one was missing! I couldn't find her anywhere. I finally had to feed the other two. I was worried that she had been carried off by a predator as there are coyotes and mountain lions on the property. Then I heard the faintest bleating. I thought she had climbed under the tarp of the wood pile, but no- that wasn't the case. It turned out that she had fallen betweent the woodpile and the house. That is getting re-stacked today! She was such a sweetied and so glad to see me.

Thanks everyone! This little one is going to a new home in a month or so and she is so sweet. After she gets done with her bottle she presses her little muzzle into your leg and falls asleep. It's too cute! It seems she learned her lesson. Her half sister and she were very close all day today and they both stayed away from the woodpile.

Alee I am so glad the little one is O.k.

I am not sure if those scares are going to shorten my life or if they clear out the plack in my veins so I will live longer???

I have been on baby hunts in the middle of the night while the snow is thigh high, I too have gone out to feed a bottle kid and they have gotten out of their pen and I find them in some of the bizarre places. Don't they know how much this scares us???

Give the little one ahug from me and that has earned you a stiff drink tonight.

Soooo glad your little one is ok. We have a bunch of bottle fed kids and bummers too, and it scares the heck out of me when I can't find one...they pick the weirdest places to crawl in to and sleep!

OH! I'm so glad you found her ok Alee! I have had similar situations with two of my (MANY!!!) goat babies (all mama raised though), but, sadly, I lost my favorite one. She got stuck between the wall of stanchions (sp?) in the barn (used to be a working dairy), and a heavy metal feeder. She died before I found her. VERY heartbreaking.

The other little goat had just been born, less than an hour or two old. It was raining and she had wedged herself up under a stack of clay roof tiles that are out behind the barn. Her mama was just going CRAZY! I pulled the tiles off as fast as I could and they slipped and fell on her. I thought she was a gonner! But, thankfully, she was ok. She's an UNGRATEFUL little beast though, and won't even come near me!!! sigh...... again, I'm so GLAD your little one is ok. ~~~ Hugs ~~~ Tracy
