This was flying around yesterday evening in my backyard. I saw only one last year and then this one yesterday evening. Someone told me it was a hummingbird moth.

This is a hawk or sphynx moth.

We get these every summer on our 4'O Clock flowers every evening.

Some are so big they have red eyeshine!

These are also the adult version of the tomato and tobacco horn worm.

Kind of puts you in a bind if you ever find one of these caterpillars in your tomatoes

Thanks Farmgirls! I am not sure what the thing is called. Ha! I am working on starting a website for my photos! Will have to let you know when it is ready for viewing! I have lots of neat photos to share.
Thanks!

Great picture. :) We get them every year. My kids call them Flying Shrimp. I really don't know why.

Wow, that is a good picture. I can see the long sucker thing, whatever it's called. What is it called? Anyway, good photo.

That is a really great picture of a hummingbird moth. Mine always turned out looking like a blurry brown streak. You have a good eye for composition and color. But I'm sure you know that! Very nice.

Found this...it's kind of odd starting out but go to the page with all the moth pics and maybe you'll find your guy. I can't see your pic either. :-)

It is a Hummingbird Moth. Kinda cool I think. There are different varieties but that is the most common. MB
