"What does this lever do?"

Q loves tools. Such a boy. Whenever the tractor gets fired up he comes running to see what is being done. "We" were plowing out the snow here to make more room for the horses to get some excersize during the too long winter.

"Hey Dad, there's something in the water." Now I'll just swipe the keys and fire up that tractor myself...

I had no idea raising my own colt would be so much fun. I knew it would be work, and well worth it, but the laughter is such a welcome bonus. With the gorgeous weather today, 2 years left to grow before saddle work seems a long way off.

Luckily I can ride the other horse, but he's a draft/qh and not smooth as a paso fino. And big! I rode him with a bareback pad, thinking his age would slow him down a bit on the first spring ride. Nope. I used muscles I didn't know I had trying to stay on him, and he jumped hills! Okay, one little hill or dip, and I should have steered him another way, but I really thought he'd just amble down, not clear it in a single happy-it's-spring leap.

Just gotta laugh. They are a lot of company. Love my critters.

Michelle--I can't remember the name or breed of the model I have that looks like your Q. They have so many these days that it's almost impossible to keep track of them. I think the model's name is "Henry" but I'm not sure. He's not a Paso Fino but a dun with a bristly mane. There are some collectors who will custom paint a model to your specifications. I don't really collect them anymore so sorry I can't be of more help. In fact, I'm trying to get rid of some of the ones I do have. I need my bookcase space for more books!

:) Happy to share. No kidding, there's a Breyer model of my Q? Which one, I have to know! I'll have to see if I can pick it up somewhere. DH rolled his eyes when I bought a Breyer this summer and DD was disappointed it wasn't for her. Mine. It is a paso fino I was thinking of custom painting to look like Q when he finishes changing colors and settles on his grown up summer coat. Brings out the little girl in me. :)

I took more pics last night. We were burning off some weeds and Q played firefighter. Amazing. I argued that the horses would freak out, and suggested moving them, stood by waiting for panic, and the little mischief maker walked up behind DH, sniffed the burned spots, sniffed the torch (when it was off) and pawed the ground to "put it out". Junior firefighter. He continued to inspect everything, very interested. I ended up walking with him just to be sure his curiosity didn't lead to getting hurt. Nope, he was curious, but cautious. Whew! Clearing out the weeds let me find more hazards to remove from the pasture, including an abandoned rabbit warren to fill in so they don't hurt their legs from the holes. Ah, the joys and work.

Q was born May 25, 2008. My daughter saw him at 3 days old, and I didn't go visit him until 3 weeks old. It was all over then, I had to have this horse. You know how it is!

That's cute, Michelle. Is Q a 2008 or 2007 foal?
