I let my goats out in the back yard awhile ago. I just looked out and saw a white stream of mucous coming from my Nubian's rear. I did not think they were due for a few more weeks. Then noticed another one with a little white on the vulva.(Is that the right word?) We may be having babies sooner that I thought. I know it could be a week or two when I see something like that. Then again it could be the next day, too. And I was going to go to S. Ga. this next weekend.

Hi all and congrat's on the babies.

Yes we have another set of twins born Wednesday afternoon. A pure white girl and a Dark Silver/white Boy. It was Gretal - Mother Gooses Daughter and the babies look like mirror images.

I fixed the blog comment issue so for those of you who tried to leave names for the contests I think it is up and running now. I am trying to get pictures but under the heat lamps I am only getting washed out pictures.

We had one storm Wenesday - 6 inches and expecting another on Staurday with more then a foot so forgive me if I am slow in responding. Good luck to all those having babies and patience to those who wait and wait and wait.....

Don't you just love Nubians? Mine is half Togg, too. So she's not as loud as the full blooded ones. She is very loud if she's by herself for some crazt reason. So she doesn't do that much. Next time we breed I will try to find a Nubian buck for her because she is the sweetest cutest doe ever. And has the prettiest kids, too.

I wouldn't mind having a fiber goat or two. There is a lady not far from here that is selling some of hers. I should go look at them before they're all gone.

Congrats on your baby boys! I would love to have a Cashgora line! But I am starting off small- 3 lines- one pure Nubian, one pure Boer- then a mix- hopefully the best of both worlds!

Well, finally. I bet they are just adorable, Grace. I have a goat that I have never seen give birth, too. I always know when she's about ready and I'll put her up then she'll wait til I leave and have them. So far she's only had boys. I'd love to get a doe out of her this time. She's a great milker. And her son is the daddy of all these new ones. So hopefully he'll give us some girls.

Not much going on today. I think it was a false alarm.

Sorry for the delay in answering - Mother Goose finally had her babies this morning, of couse after another storm hit the farm and I was back and forth every two hours she managed to do it in between checks. She hates when I am in the barn and over the yearas she will never let me see her deliver - funny funny goat.

She had two boys - I love boys but I know that many do not. One is pure white and the other is black and white. He is just incredible with his markings - can not wait to get a picture going but the temp is 26 degrees and the camera will not work in that cold.
They are cashgora's and just lovely.

You know what this means another naming contest. Now remember they are in the line of Mother Goose Stories since that is the mothers name. Last year was Hansel and Gretal.

As for the white discharge - you are getting close but I would make sure that they are watched because what you do not want is an infection to set in and also you do not want them to deliver dry! That is where you can lose those babies while still in the mother. If she looks like she is having contractions but not progressing then I would error on the side of assisting. This is that great watch game that some of us do for months at a time.

My son was telling me over the weekend to give up on Mother Goose - saying she is just faking the whole thing - I did have a sheep ewe who did that several years in a row. I told him that I just know there were sweet one's waiting to come out and play. Now I have left her daughter and then Miskha's mom (you know the ancient girl). Just keep a close eye and soon you will have a great new suprise.

Back to the barn and I will be back later.

Ahhh Kris... how I feel your anxiety. But I've gotten over it. After 7yrs with goats and over 10 with sheep, I've pretty much given up on "being right there" when the blessed event takes place. I used to sit in the barn for HOURS-- and have for YEARS, only to have WITNESSED about seven births in all those years (and only ONCE was it kids). Usually the girls will wait until I'm not looking then pop those babies out. I have been VERY fortunate that ALL my girls have easy births and very rarely ever need my help. But, I do have to say that when one of those rare moments does happen, I am right there to lend a hand. I had to help birth a lamb a few weeks ago. If the baby hadn't been so big, I think the ewe would have done just fine on her own. (Both are doing well and the lamb is a DOLL!)

Anyway, my point is this-- just take a deep breath and don't PANIC! You WANT your does NOT to need your help. But it does'nt hurt to be there if they need you, just don't wear yourself out before it even happens! ~~~ Hugs from a shepherd who's BEEN there ~~~ Tracy

Well, I got the calendar and counted the days up to now. And From Nov. 15 to now is only 135 days. So unless he got them all on the first day, they still would have from the 9th to the 19th which would be 145-155 days. But that's very unlikely that that happened. So they could even go past the 19th.

Sandy looks drier back there today. But kind of stood around when I gave them hay this morning. So I need to get some goat pens ready quick. And I started giving them all-grain this morning, too. I will go get sunflower seeds to add to it also. And we'll just go from there! These will be the longest 3 weeks for me. Mine always seem to kid during the day here. I have never had one born during the night. But things could change.

Very cool!

Here at the zoo we may be getting a pair of female goats for us to keep as companion animals in the back barn areas.

This may help with our mowing issues too.

I know all about exotics, but nothing about goats.

Are there any good reads out there?

And congrats.

Kris, I hope your wait isn't too long. My DD has been waiting all winter to see if any of our goats (boer) were gotten before the boys became wethers. My DD likes to bottle feed, well at least at first she does. Keep us informed.

Kris, I know the feeling. Our first goat baby was born dead. Our second one was born last Wednesday(of course it was a buck). and now the other is expecting anyday. She is showing signs like yours are. I am getting so tried of running to the barn. I am thinking of putting her in the house. LOL! All of these are first time moms.

Those two also have their tails sticking straight up, too. The other 4 have their tails down. And Sandy is the one I thought was not pregnant. But she has just ballooned the last day or two. And they all have very full udders already.

This is where I get anxious and can't stand the waiting. I'm like a nervous grandma.

I didn't get the buck til Nov. 15, though. She must have been waiting at the gait for him. Sandy and Ocho went first last year, too. Oh, I hate the waiting! I just hope everythings ok.

Good luck! When I've noticed mine displaying those symptoms, it's anywhere from a few hours to the next day. I bet we'll be hearing from you soon with updates!
